I'm in Miami...!!!

A travel blog entry by deni367

... This is why I wanted to see Miami beach, of seen it so many times in movies, especially those from the 80s, but I really wanted to see what it's like. Apart from the odd Lamborghini, it didn't look like much had changed. Miami beach seems to have kept its charm that is so well portrayed in the movies.

I finished my tour of Miami beach and decided I might have time to go to the beach back in Fort Lauderdale, oh how wrong I was. I waited around for my ...

... later than scheduled. The pilot and staff were very chatty and welcoming. I was sitting next to a nice skinny woman who occupied the middle seat. (Anyone who flys regularly can appreciate that!) Then, our aisle mate arrived (a totally tanked young guy). The mini-drama continues... Ugh! First the people behind me - a family of four - two very young children - 3 seats - no respect for anyone else - Do you see where I'm going with this? I've been getting ...

... Day so throughout our wait to board and the rest of the Day we would hear, "Aussie! Aussie! Aussie!" quickly followed by another group answering," Oi! Oi! Oi!". The Aussies were very happy to share their Holiday (which was like our 4th of July) with us. So we too were soon involved with answering, "Oi! Oi! Oi!”. As everyone is Irish on St. Patrick's Day, everyone is Australian on Australian Day.

It was then time to head over to Madison Square Gardens for the game. That stadium is amazing. It was a great game too but unfortunately the Knicks lost but we did see Carmelo Anthony score 45 points which was cool. We went straight back to the apartment where I crashed instantly. ...

    Good downtown choice

A friend and I spent a long weekend at the Hampton Inn and enjoyed our stay. It is downtown so if you are looking for the beach scene this is not for you. The parking is free and secure so it is easy to get anywhere you want. The room was nicely furnished and clean. They have a nice breakfast area with a big variety of choices. The pool is nice and is just outside the breakfast area. The only downside was you have to use your room keycard for everything and sometimes took a few swipes to get the thing to work but the system did make you feel secure in the elevators and the parking garage. The Riverwalk is a short walk from the hotel.

    Found our place!!

We only spent one night at this hotel, but it was a great experience! Very lovely rooms, clean, loaded with conveniences, free internet, comfy bed, spacious bathroom. There is a little 'shop' located next to the check in counter with drinks (both w/ and w/o alcohol) and frozen dinners, snacks, wine, and last minute items such as bandaids and batteries. I found this to be a genius set up! The parking garage is only accessable by room key which made us feel comfortable parking our car overnight. Of course, the area is very safe anyway and a short walk to the Las Olas excitement! The breakfast was a cute variety of danish, small sandwiches, fruit juice, breads and cereal. My only complaint is that the fruit was a bit too ripe. Also, it is a bit cumbersome to have to use your room card everytime you use the elevator- however, I would rather be inconvenienced than unsafe! We will stay here everytime we visit Ft. Lauderdale.

    Would not return

You get what you pay for! At $109.00 a night I should'nt complain...but I will! Stayed here to attend a wedding at the River Walk. The rooms had cheap K-mart style furniture and the bed's comforter was stained. The tub's drain needed to be cleaned as the water would not go down. The pool had garbage floating in it and the spa smelled so bad that my wife and I had to get out. I am not usually a critic and make the best out of what is handed to me but it would be unfair for me not to mention these issues. A great place to flop if your in college and want to share the room with four buddies. A married couple from New Jersey getting away from the kids for the weekend...NOT!

    Good for downtown location

Very good location for downtown if on a business visit. Would not recommend it for typical travelers though due to location. Was very clean & comfortable, but no maintenance crew on duty on weekends/nights as I had to switch rooms as the TV wasn't working and there was no one to repair/check it on sunday when I checked in. Didn't use the amenities except for the parking (covered/gated) so won't comment on same. Reasonable rate for the area.

Don't go until you read this

Hello all, I am a 23 year old college student who opted to go to Ft. Lauderdale on Spring Break 2005. I just returned from Ft. L. so this review is hot off the press and will describe the current conditions of this hotel. First things first, we arrive and the front desk attendent gives us our key-card. I wouldn't call him friendly or welcoming, he was actually kind of distant and had a bit of an attitude. Throughout our 5 day stay, most of the Front desk clerks would emanate this kind of attitude, so it was something our party got used to eventually.

    Decent Hotel

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights when we first arrived in Fort Lauderdale. I thought the price was a little high for a Hampton Inn but we also stayed during the peak season so every hotel is high. The people were very nice and helpful and the hot breakfast each day was good. Parking was not a problem and the location was great. It was within walking distance of Las Olas and was very convenient to the downtown area. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

    Nice Hotel

Stayed mid december for 3 days. The hotel was very clean and staff was excellent. Very close to several attractions and secure. Good but not great free breakfast. Room was good with free mini frig and micro wave and ample free parking.

    Very pleasant stay

We were escaping the inconvenience that Hurricane Frances left us......no water or power at our house. This hotel is very clean and very conveniently located. If you are doing business in downtown Ft. Lauderdale, the location is tops. It's not too far from the beaches and shopping. Very secure as well. Accommodating and friendly staff. The breakfast in the morning is top notch...the only negative is the coffee!! yuck!!

I would definitely stay here again. I've stayed at many Hampton Inn's, and this one is the best.

    Extremely Disappointed

I spent a weekend at this hotel and found it way overpriced even at the AARP rate. I usually enjoy staying at Hampton Inns but this one left a lot to be desired. Most disappointing was the level of service. With the exception of the person that checked me in, the rest of the staff appeared to be going through the motions. When I checked out at 7 am on Sunday there was no desk clerk to be found. Four other couples showed up to check out. We yelled, tried the house phone to no avail and began to fear that something had happened. Finally the desk clerk came down the staircase from the second floor and told us to "Hold our horses!) she was getting herself breakfast. They say they are close to the beach, but don't believe it.

    Excellent hotel and service!

I went to the Hampton Inn after a horrible experience at the Days Inn down the street. The hotel and their parking garage are very secure.

Everything is clean and looks new. The beds were very comfortable and breakfast in the morning was excellent. To top it off I got a discounted rate that I wasn't expecting. I would reccommend this hotel to anyone.
