          I Love Kansas

... day cruising down the highway listening to my many CDs (that still have not gotten old yet, I just know every word to every song) with my windows down and enjoying the sunshine. Tom Petty was again a huge part of my day. While driving down the highway at one point, I saw hundreds and hundreds of windmills to the north. They were huge! And sort of sporadically placed facing in different directions. But what a great place for them. Very windy and wide open spaces. Then ...

... not the smaller highways- I don't know about the interstates. It's a giant washboard out here. There's not a single bit of flat road; I'm either climbing or going down. There's not much reward in this type of riding, because as soon as you crush a hill you start right over again. I also didn't consider that I'd have 24mph crosswinds. It's a different kind of challenge out here. I just wanted to set the record straight... Kansas is not a boring ride. It's lush, green, windy, and ...

Ugh. Boring! David left very early and flew to Orlando for a conference. The kids and I packed up and set off across Kansas. The only thing to look at was the occasional herd of bison and the miles and miles of wind turbines. We finally reached our stopover hotel in Colby, KS. There's not much to say about ...

We left almost on time at 9:30. We were both amazed how easy it was to close up the house and unhook everything. We headed west on OK 412, thru Stillwater (home of OSU), to I-35 up to I-70. There was a 22-25 mph wind from the south. Now I understand why we saw more wind turbines than I've seen on my way to Lubbock! The wind was not a big deal going north on I-35, but a real pain going west. We had a nice lunch ...

Left Denver at around 9.15. We drove all morning, reaching Colby, Kansas in time for a relaxed lunch. Afterwards, whilst hanging about outside the vans we were interviewed by a group who purported to be from Japanese TV, 'chasing' a Japanese chaser..may just have been for YouTube but what the heck, we indulged them and gave ETT some free advertising. We stayed around for a while, watching a thunderstorm developing....then set off ...
