... the mountain, just as it hit the water and there seemed to be much more than the last time we saw it years ago. For some reason the pictures didn't turn out. The camera wasn't on the right setting I guess.

We don't get into Phoenix until midnight Saturday night so anyone who calls Sunday morning will be beheaded!
Kailua-kona, Hawaii, United States mozi... ache for two days. Anyways, I get to Kailua to find Aki cleaning a room upstairs in the hostel, I pretend to poop in the middle of the floor. It was a chill day, laying in the hammock, talking, watching television in Aki's dark, stuffy room, sewing a hole in his shorts (i am a terrible sewer, it looked like a five year old did it), going to Kona Natural Foods and Costco, and watching The Office (Yay!). The next day was spent with Fish the ...
Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, United States gglovestheworld... of Mauna Kea we were able to see Mauna Loa, which is an active volcano. I guess Mauna Kea stands for "white mountain," which makes sense because most winters it snows up there. In fact, it's possible to ski or snowboard when there is enough and conditions are not too windy. On this particular day in November we did actually find a patch of snow!

This was our second time visiting Mauna Kea on the 5-day trip. On an earlier day we went ...
Mauna Kea, Hawaii, United States alifebeinglived... The actual event kicks off two days after we depart, so we'll just miss it though. The Luau itself was wonderful! We went to the one sponsored by the Royal Kona Hotel, which is supposedly one of the more authentic. The performance was wonderful with the dancers giving us a "tour" of various Polynesian islands through dance. The MC was full of humor and knowledge and the food was delicious. Today, we are off to the Volcanos!!
Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, United States ambersky12... share the exuberance, I sent a text message to my brother and his family in Detroit, Michigan and to my stepson, Mathieu, in Montreal. I guess they were too busy celebrating Christmas to reply. Buoyed by the experience of having visited this beautiful place, we headed back the 5 miles to Highway 11 that connects Hilo with Kailua-Kona. As we drove west along Highway 11 we were almost immediately deep into the throngs of another lava bed that had crossed the ...
Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, United States lobo... our shell collection. So we snatched some in stealth mode. I was getting really tired in the afternoon and thankfully my beautiful lady was handling the driving tour of the island. Lindsay piloted us around the southernmost tip of the island and towards our cabin at Volcanoes National Park. We decided to drive up into Hilo town before checking in. We wanted to get everything that we would need and then have the whole evening to ourselves. About 15 minutes outside ...
Kona, Hawaii, United States scaccs... looking in the lobby area of the old Kona Inn, one of the first hotels built as a rich people's hotel. Beautiful woodwork! We love historic stuff like this! And it was lovely to walk out across the yard area toward the beach and sit on a wall there and gaze at the ocean for a while. Maybe we didn't spend enough time just looking at the ocean . . . . In the shops, I kept finding different turtle things (Larry likes turtles) but he ...
Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, United States golfmobilewell its been a busy and challenging time lately... i have been delving into partying a bit the last while which has been fun and adventurous~ but not the best for my health (alcohol in general - i usually dont indulge much)... until nowadays... a fun buddy i met early in my arrival to Hawaii is named Chad, who became a friend and we had a number of adventures together... usually making music and talking the Mayan Calendar (this guy was Hawaii's ...
Pahoa, Hawaii, United States reneeonearth... their response was "Michigan." Keone laughed and said, "No, you're not!" But I don't think they got it. The road going into the valley is ridiculously steep, and as we were about to head down that road, Keone told us, "OK, now, everybody hold your hands up like you're on a roller coaster!" Well, it wasn't that bad, but I'm glad someone familiar with the ...
