... the sun might reappear and it did. At that point there were maybe 5 people left at the peak. It wasn't the most amazing sunset I've ever seen but the location was pretty fantastic and it was nice to have fewer people there. We agreed to meet up again for sunrise at a place only a few minutes from the hostel. It was the same huge crowd and once again the clouds didn't help. It is fun to learn about the significance of all of the various elements of the gardens, including the stones that were imported from over 80 miles away to symbolize a mountain backdrop for many of the beautiful scenic areas here. The 400 year old gingko tree is spectacular, as is the 300+ year old wisteria vine that covers a huge trellis. Oh, and the other funny/horrific thing was watching Chinese tourists (not small ones either) being ferried up and down the mountain on these bamboo seats by two guys: that didn't look like fun either. On top of that, we saw kids that looked as young as three years old being forced to climb! Not exactly my idea of a fun family trip, nor theirs by the looks of things... Anyway, rant over.
