... the Chinese seem to think it is simply gorgeous! The sand had clearly been imported and absolutely no effort had been made to spread it out so that it looked like a beach! It was literally like a dumper truck had dropped great mounds of sand near the sea and the Chinese had all exclaimed “behold, now we have a beach! ... Dao (Taoist) gods - some dating back to the Tang Dynasty, emperors have visited here also. Also there is a Ming Dynasty military harbour which was something quite different to what I'd come across in past trips to the Middle Kingdom.

Not much else to say here as transport etc. was quite straightfoward, other than it was a really nice place to spend the day.

Our 2nd stop was Ancient Cultural Street, located in the old section of the city. Along the pedestrian walkways, are nearly 100 shops selling all sorts of Asian arts and crafts items. The distinctive Chinese architectural style has been well-preserved along Cultural Street.
