We got an awesome deal from Travelzoo. Our room was clean, simple and nice. Came with a complimentary champagne bottle and wine tasting coupons. They have a great restaurant as well.

          Great place

          from

on 04/02/2006 me and my wife and another couple visited Solvang and stayed at the Vagabond inn. the hotel was clean and came with a microwave, tv, refrigerator, iron and iron board. continental breakfast was good. for you pool lovers there was a inside pool that was heated to 86. great place and great price. definitely will stay again.

          Fun place to take kids

          from

We stayed here with a girls soccer team and everyone had a great time. The kids love the pool and game room. The place it right downtown, so you can walk for dinner. It was fun.

Fantastic - look forward to our next visit!

          from

We came across the Vagabond Inn and were taken with its great location and neat appearance. We were traveling with two other couples (our son and daughter and their spouses) and had no advance reservation. They gave us adjoining rooms and reduced the room rates without our even asking. The rooms were lovely, spacious and clean, and the indoor pool and game area is awesome! We had to leave after one night, but one of the couples loved it so much they stayed an extra week! It was so kid-friendly they couldn't resist.

          It ----- And It's A Huge Rip-Off!

          from

We stayed here during last year's Solvang Prelude Fun Ride- and what a mistake THAT was.

Where to start? First, they tried to change rates upon our arrival.

As others have noted, the walls are paper thin. The decor was incredibly hideous considering they had "just remodeled".

As we had to get up really early for the ride, we asked about the availability of good coffee at 5AM. Hint: Take your own!

Get this- no hot water for showers after the ride, so we just went swimming in the pool as it was warmer than the shower. We wrote a letter complaining about the lack of hot water, but never received a reply.

We got a special deal through a friend who is a local business owner, but even at $139/night we felt raped after that stay. Going rate for Prelude weekend is $169 this year, but I suggest going to the Scandinavian Inn instead. They were $175 but all booked up at the time.

And one more thing. Why do all the hotels/motels in Solvang have to double or triple their usual rates for special event weekends? All the stores and restaurants don't double their prices like that. They ----.

I recommend avoiding Vagabond Inn/Solvang entirely if possible, and avoiding Solvang itself during any special event weekends because no matter where you stay, you're going to be ripped off.

One more thing- forget about "Sideways". Merlot is great.

when the hotel was purchased the new owners started a 4 mil renovation that is almost complted. for some reason the old vagabond reviews changed names so it looks like the Hadsten has been operating for some time but the property has in fact only been the Hadsten House since May 2007.

the property has a new owner and has undergone a major renovation. if you look to current reviews you will see that all of these old issues have been addressed.

          thank you.

          Always love it!

          from

my husband & I and our family have stayed at this motel on several occasions and my husband and I have also stayed in the jaccusi room, it has always been a great place to stay. The rooms are always clean, the service has always been good. we have stayed before when it was quality inn and since it has been inns of california, but we were always pleased.

          Family friendly, and great service!

          from

We found this hotel in a AAA book, and after making our reservations found the terrible reviews from other users, so we were rather apprehensive but decided to give it a try. Our stay was over Labor Day weekend, and we were wary of the noise levels that had been mentioned, as we have a two year old that we try to get to bed early. However, we were greatly relieved when everything turned out great. Considering that AAA has it as a two star, we were pleased with the cleanliness, quietness, and spaciaousness of the room we were assigned, with two queen beds (my mother-in-law came with us). We have stayed at "three star" motels that weren't as nice. Another thing that we were very happy about was the breakfast - definitely an extended continental, and plenty to fill up on, even for our tot. The staff was very pleasant and helpful, and all in all, we have no complaints. Solvang is a great place to visit, and the Vagabond is within walking distance of everything.

          The Jacuzzi rooms are great!

          from

I'm surprised to see that others had a bad stay. My wife and I stayed in room 100 which has a full size whirlpool tub and it was great. A little too much bubble bath and we had an extreme foam party! This room was a total surprise for a typical motel.

          Horrible Place to Stay

          from

We had the recent unfortunate opportunity to stay at this horrible place. While looking on line for a place to stay in Solvang I came across the Vagabond Inn and thought we would give it a go.....WHAT A BIG MISTAKE! After making a reservation I noted the reviews so I called the 800 line inquiring about the rooms and mentioned the reviews. I was told that the place had been recently renovated and updated with new furniture, which turned out to be not true at all. The walls were paper thin and we could hear everthing going on in the rooms on either side of us. We also had a bathroom with a no good faucet and had to take cold showers in the evening and in the morning because there is no one available in the office after 10:00 pm or before 7:00 am to fix it. I called customer service to file a complaint and was contacted three weeks later to be told that they would refund 10% of one night's stay which roughly came out to approximately $9.80. My suggestion is they keep the money and fix the faucet in room 402!! Who ever reads this review...BE AFRAID, BE VERY AFRAID to stay at this horrible place. If I ever stay at this place again it would be as a last resort or out of desperation!

          Horrible Stay

          from

We found the listing for the Vagabond Inn / Solvang in a pamphlet about the area.

The walls are less than paper thin. People in the next room were very noisy well into the wee hours - and had their t.v. on all night long.

We called the front desk twice in the middle of the night and there was no answer. We ended up calling the next door room to request they turn off their t.v. It never got turned off.

The Hospitality promise which is proudly displayed in the room says: If for any reason - any part of your stay is not satisfactory to you, we will refund that part of your stay.

They offered $20 off of an inflated weekend rate of $189.00. We ended up with $40 off the room.

I guess that $149 would be the cost for the showers. And sleep - well, it is worth 40 bucks.

The room was old and not very nice.

This event really put a damper on the whole weekend.

Would not recommend Vagabond Inns to anyone.

What happend to steve the manager?

          from

what happend to steve st. clair him and his wife where the best managers. My wife and I stayed about a 1 1/2 ago and was so pleased with the room and the service, the hotel was so clean and the managers went out of there way to make us happy. When we went back and to our surprise they where gone. TOO BAD for this hotel, the new managers where not nice at all, the room was VERY dirty along with the pool. This was a real clean and nice place to stay in solvang, and steve gave us a great deal on the room the new management tried to change the rate upon check in NOT GOOD! and the name now is Inns of California not Quality inn.

so stay away from this hotel at all cost.

GPS is a bit useless when you have no real idea where you want to go. The map of California that we have shows nothing in any detail. Back on the freeway we leave the sea behind and enter vine, fruit and vegetable country again. On past St. Luisa Obispo and it's dormitory communities, national guard base, prison and ...

Today was the day to get out of the city and head to the hills. We had heard such good things about Solvang that we decided to make a day and night out of it. We headed out of Pasadena on the tangle of roads that is the Los Angeles freeway system. The whole freeway system is actually incredibly organized (at least to us who tend to drive in the middle of the morning or afternoon and as far away from rush hour as we can can). There are at least five lanes on each freeway, ...

I had Biscuits and gravy - 2 halves of a scone topped with grilled turkey sausage and thick chicken gravy and 2 eggs scrambled with half a plate of breakfast potatoes on the side. Interesting but not very nice. Marie had Jolly green omelette. Once again 2 eggs with lots of ...

Set off quite late today from LA. Fell out with Liz before we had even left the garage. The car has a rear camera and sensors just like my own. As the sensors start to go off as I am reversing, she starts to shout and panic. I lose the place and reply with my own rant filled with expletives and finish off by telling her to shut up!!! She doesn't want to drive but cant keep her mouth shut!! This was not the only occasion. Example; she tells me ...

I got up early in morning and got the 5.10 am free shuttle to Lax airport. My tour was picking us up from China Town at 6.40 am and the taxi from my hotel to China Town would cost me $60 so I decided on alternative route.
At Lax airport I waited for the Fly bus cost $7 (I paid with card in London) which arrived 15 mins late but I was early anyway. Fly bus took me to Union station.
