... just won't stand for such prejudice. Besides, I gots places to go.
On a side note, Patzcuaro is deep in the state of Michoacán. When I arrived in Acapulco (recently considered one of the most violent cities in the world) the locals thought I was crazy for hanging out in Patzcuaro. Apparently violence in Mexico migrates like wildebeests on the Serengeti. When one region ...

... What I am appreciating more and more about these trips is the exchange of information: people providing their insights on places you have not visited and vice versa.

We were taking a modern Lalinea bus direct to Patzcuaro. Sid had said it would be 5-6 hours [nice he made such a large error the other way though 4.5H felt long enough today]. We arrived near the crossroad; up, to the town center of Patzcuaro and down, to the lake. We decided to stay in Patzcuaro for the next 8 days instead of heading north for 37 km to our warmshower host in San Andres Tzirondaro.

Since, we were near the lake, we checked accommodations by the lake. We found a nice enough place right away, but wanted to see options in the historical center. Dave ...

... En route to the Volcano after leaving Uruapan we were stopped by the police. There must have been about a hundred of them at the junction, checking all the vehicles passing through. Apparently this area has a fairly aggressive cartel and there has been recent discovery of Coca plants. You can understand how hard it is to find these farms as the mountains are densely coated in trees. The advise to us was not to stop for anyone. As ...
