Happy Birthday !

For my last day in Mexico - and my birthday - I decided to treat myself and not to return to the Centro Historico. Insteat I went to the more upscale Zona Rosa. A nice place, really, with dozens of good restaurant (and not that expensive), clean pedestrian streets, pink-colored pavement (hence the name) and a friendly, lively ...

After the view we drank beer and the free tequila the bar staff at the hostel insisted they poor down our throat. If the hostel wasn’t almost empty it would have been a very fun bar.

... spice. I came back and could not find the mortar and pestil that had been on the counter, so I found another way to make the cumin powder. It was one of those creative moments wherein I had no idea what the final result would be. Melinda made some melon and procuitto and some crackers with blue cheese for the appetizers which were delicious. I was able to make the fajitas and Sheila made the salad and we had some left over rice and beans from the meal that Maria had made. Along with our ...

... street and took some barely visible photos in front of some monuments (attached) I won´t go into too much detail, but we really disliked Mexico City, it was big, dirty, very impersonal, not aimed at tourists and for fans of Billy Connolly...."it smells like *****!" We decided to stay one more night in the hotel so we could find some more info about moving on. We decided on Guadalajara as it looked good in the guide book and set about getting the bus and accomodation sorted!

Travel to San Miguel de Allende & First Day Here

... to call one of them, I visited all 4 on foot. Academia Hispanica seems to have a great program, and I'll be starting there on Monday morning. On my way home, a parade! Biggest challenge of the day: Keeping beers upright and in my hand! Dropped one enroute to the fridge, toppled another on my patio... I guess at 65 cents a pop, it ain't so bad :P Greatest find of the day: Lime tree at my entryway :-)

... as it is supposedly the largest exhibition of her works ever. I think I believe their claim. What was also amazing to behold was the reaction of the attendees. Many were younger, as in students, but there were also a number of professional people, ladies-who-do-lunch types, arts students, some tourists, equal numbers male and female. There were quite a few people inside by the time we arrived, mid-morning. As is the fashion in ...

... brother in law, and nephew all flew down to spend the Christmas holiday together to experience Mexico. Although San Miguel De Allende has a Blockbuster, Subway, Domino's, Office Depot, and many other American businesses; more television stations, people you pass on the street, and store front signs are in English than Spanish, the beauty of the city can only be found in Mexico. Huge colorful cathedrals in the center of town surrounded by beautiful ...
