Everything in the Hami Hotel just worked: from the spacious and well-equipped rooms to the massage parlour and the great on-site restaurants. Best, however, were the staff - never felt more welcome anywhere. Ask for porter Butter to show you around Hami's nightlife.

Desert oases: Hami and Turpan
The bus ride from Dunhuang to Hami was the most gruesome of our China trip - 6 hours of breathing dust and rattling our bones on unpaved desert roads. Reaching Hami City, a.k.a. Traffic is light on this road, only about a handful of cars pass through in a span of few minutes. We hide half of our bags behind the trees to increase our appeal and write a sign of the next town on a cardboard box cutout to tell drivers where we’re going.
After half an hour a Mazda ...
Dunhuang-Hami
Wed. 3rd Jun. Dunhuang-Hami. 465ks. 10 Hrs
The Chief Blogger should be back on deck tomorrow. It was off to the Grottos this morning, where we spent about an hour and a half being shown around this favourite tourist spot. It is well developed and not what we expected. It was not possible just to drive up and explore, so we joined a group and compulsory guide and off we went. The pace was a bit slow, as always with a group, so we saw all we needed to and made ...
