... to mark my arrival. "Pas de problem", I said to myself, as I had a good distance to cover to get to the town of Orbe for my first night en Suisse.

... the day. Second, I am no gastronome and so I have rarely elected to go for the restaurant option at meal times. I'm afraid to say that the one time I did resulted in me having the worst food experience I can ever recall.

... mix with the milky green water in the Rhone. There were also twigs and logs zooming down the river! We passed through orchards and vineyards, then an industrial area. We have been watching the valley gradually grow wider over the last day or so since Ernen. We know it won't be far now before the river becomes a lake - lake Leman! ... were doing the stage from Canterbury to R(h)eims. We were joined at times by a New York city-raised Russian woman who plans to complete 12 'pilgrimages' in a 12-month period. I guess that's why she's already a day or two ahead of me on the road to Rome.

... giggled and laughed, told me not to worry, and that she would be there in ten.

I gratefully thanked the man for his help, and sat on the corner like a child waiting to be picked up from soccer practice. With tears still stinging my eyes, I sure felt like a child.
