... scenery, but we decided for the shortcut as we were pressed for time if we wanted to get up to Zugspitz before it closed. On the 30 minute walk between the cable car stations at Hochalm and Kreuzeck, we came across a heard of cows up close (with bells on!). I know cows are not overly exciting - but seeing them in this terrain, eating the greenest of green grass, against the backdrop of the bluest of blue sky's, with bells around their necks ...

After waking up to another beautiful day in Munich, we take a cab to Sixt to pick up our 2015 BMW 530d; a fantastic car! We stop at a square on the outskirts of Munich for some pizza and calzones at an Italian cafe before making our journey to Innsbruck, Austria. Cruising down the German autobahn towards Austria is a sight that cannot be explained properly with words. It is breathtakingly beautiful and we are both in awe of the Alps that are surrounding us. Also, ...

... river below your feet! (see pics) Tues - We headed for the Bavarian National Park, Zugspitz. We started out the morning with a couple hour hike around an alpine lake, Eibsee. We planned to go to the top next, but the tram to Germany's highest peak was closed and the upper mountain was shrouded in thick cloud, so we rented a couple of mountain bikes and biked into the countryside for a few hours. The highlight of the ride was the red fox we encountered. ...

... the city. Her place is amazing! It's a really new apartment with a huge terrace that overlooks the town with huge mountains looming on each side. Pia is really interesting as well, she grew up in Vienna but has travelled extensively (including Melbourne) and has lived in the US so her English is excellent. She also has two cute dogs which we have enjoyed playing with as we are both missing Jaxx. Innsbruck is an interesting city. It has a beautiful 'old town' which is ...
