Machu Picchu

A travel blog entry by janewest

Today was one of the highlights of the tour. We had fantastic weather for our visit to Machu Picchu the lost city of the Incas. We visited the town of Ollantaytambo and saw people living in inca houses. They had Guinea pigs running around everywhere and they had names like lunch and dinner. We then visited the archaeological site. Fantastic …

Machu Picchu, At Last!!

A travel blog entry by larrynpeggy

Once again we are up and at 'em early. Mainly because of the racket from the animals located right outside our room, but also because we have a 7:50am pickup to the train station in Ollantaytambo. Arrived at Aquas Calientes train station. Short walk to hotel. Shorter walk to buses. Criss crossing and zig zagging up the mountain. Not my favorite kind of ride and very relieved to arrive safely...then...the wonder of Machu Picchu. Not at all crowded as the high tourist season was just ending. Go back to sleep. Our night at our 5* was heaven and I think well deserved. In the afternoon catch a train back to Cusco. The train is busy and we are a …

We had a nice room with a balcony overlooking the river. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. Dinner and breakfast were adequate. It was an easy walk to the bus station.
