I realized this week that by becoming a doctor, I am taking on a much bigger responsibility than most people can handle: to understand my patients and communicate to them the way they can understand. Hopefully my French and Spanish come in handy to this end, but regardless, there is a way to speak to patients, and as a doctor, I will need to master this communication.

My next stop after Santa Cruz was to hop back on the bus and head all the way across to the West of the island to Puerto Tazacorte – the sunniest place on the island.
