... hand (where the needle is) repeatedly. And hard. almost making you scream it hurts so badly.
15. Don’t freak out if, after having the IV removed from your hand your wrist proceeds to swell up profusely. Apparently its normal for the swelling to take more than 5 days to go down and for your wrist to hurt every single time you move it.
Wtf Ghana.
16. Just don’t eat side of the road meals.
Probably never a good idea.
... probably amber.
Read this next part with caution. I am clearly only alive once so I need to have an adventure. And remember I would like to think I have a pretty good head on my shoulders and I am a truster or my own judgement.
So my friends and I (there were 6 of us) decided to create our own version of the amazing race called who can get back to campus the fastest without taking any taxi or tro tro (in other words. Either walking or hitchhiking)
I know how ...
... us yesterday so I thought no problem right? He lives in Accra. Well, turns out it takes a while for the ship to clear, and we end up not being able to get off until around 11:30 AM. And Ni has to wait until after 12, since he needs to pick up his passport. So some of us get off, and we plan on meeting up with him at this food court in Accra where the bus drops us off near. We get on the bus, and there's about a thousand of us on this stupid greyhound ...
Accra, Ghana heringHi everyone - thanks for the great response to last weekend's blog! To answer a couple of people's questions, I'm in Ghana for 6 weeks, volunteering. I'm working at an orphanage and will also be doing some legal interning here to cover some of my final prac requirements for Legal Workshop. I'm based in Accra, living in a beachside (don't let that fool you into thinking it resembles a beach town anywhere else!) suburb called Nungua, about 40minutes tro-tro ride from the centre of the city ...
Accra, Ghana emmav... find sport secretaries for the dorms (to get on a team, you train with a dorm, then the best from each dorm are chosen to move up to inter-university competition, or you stay at dorm level and only play other UGH students). We went to about 5 dorms and no one could find the sports secretaries, so we went to the bookstore (i bought some souvenirs for people at home!!!) and came back to the dorm.
The athletic director here told us that women rarely compete in ...

12) The mall in Ghana looks like a real mall. (Air conditioning, shiny stores, not at all what I had pictured)
13) It is relatively cool but the humidity is so ridiculous I have found a way to sweat without being hot. (again not a complaint but a mere observation
14) I have met so many awesome people in the past few years that most of these American students that I have been spending our ...
... I spend on food and transportation, because I want to do some traveling at the end of my trip. Tonight we’re going to a jazz club. Jesse has a connection with a lady who owns the jazz club. She’s from Los Angeles, and now lives in Ghana. That should be fun. From what we heard, the place is right on the beach.
I think we’re going to church tomorrow. Sister Gifty wanted me to go to see what it’s like. I ...
... supposed to play a prayer on the talking drum before playing anything else that day). He wanted to videotape me! So he grabbed his camera and set it up on top of some wood. And we played. We played Jarigu De Salema for like…10 minutes. It was so much fun. Then he wanted to tape me playing Bamaya, so we played Bamaya. He’s going to use the video to promote himself as a teacher, lol.
Uncle calls me “crrrrrrazy lady” because I pick everything up so quickly (I ...
... They are kids toys, but Anthony, who is a CalArts alum, has perfected the art of playing awesome rhythms with these things. Uncle taught me how to play them in the car. It's pretty hard! We got home, Uncle argued with the taxi driver about the price, we ate dinner (Aunty Adiza didn't know that I don't eat fish, and she mixed some fish into rice.....I ate to be polite, but I didn't eat much). Then I took my bath and am now under a mosquito net in bed. That's all for now.
Medie, Accra, Ghana neilis... see the monkeys. He showed us a water hole where everyone was gathering their water for the day and hauling it back to their villages, and then he threw a few pieces of bread in and all these fish (tilapia) started swarming the surface. We then made the small hike up to the middle of a hill where we could overlook the trees where the monkeys lived. We got to see a couple from a long distance away, but of course I still loved it. then on the way back down we ...
