Carnival in Cologne

... played songs on an accordion all night while the locals sang along to the songs. We then went to Peter's Brauhaus which was filled with people dressed for the carnival. The beer there was amazing. After Peter's we went to the local kebab shop and had a yufkta and the guy actually baked the bread on the spot for us. We split the kebab and went to sleep not long after, ready for another ...

I had a really good sleep and felt refreshed after the rather tiring first day. I had a shower (hotel showers are just amazing) then went down for breakfast, there was a great selection of food that was a help yourself buffet ranging from a full cooked breakfast to a lighter continental choice or both if you were very hungry, I opted for a cooked breakfast, very similar to a full English but the bacon was cut really thinly, almost see through, the sausages were small ...

My first trip abroad

... during my journey did speak English very well but I did notice the further out you go from the city the less English people speak, on my visit to Kaiserworth I went to a local bakery to have some lunch and it was a quite difficult to make my order understood, by using hand gestures and pointing at products on display I got what I wanted and a nice smile from the lady serving.

Time to turn in now and recharge my batteries.

... maps there is no trail makers SO don't ever think of biking in Germany it's a no go
found track non rhine river and headed for home with pick your own strawberries on the way
checked out band festival ( Mayor there again )
was going to pitch tent on lawn and pretend we on way to Amsterdam bikes stil packed. Think we might try and catch tram to Duisburg tomorrow and continue from there

Day Trip to Cologne and Düsseldorf

We caught the last train we could to make it back to Braunschweig. We had to transfer once (in Minden), then we were back in Braunschweig. The first train everybody pretty much napped, the second train we were all awake and chatty as can be.

We took the 2 buses back to Schunter again, then stopped in briefly at Holly's going away party before we all crashed. It was a really long day and a really fun ...
