... stores in the grand bazaar, performing the same routine as has been played out since it was constructed in the 15th century was incredible. You could easily spend days in the grand bazaar alone, without seeing it all, it's an immense labyrinth, without spatial cues to keep you orientated. Basilica cistern, the largest of several hundred ancient cisterns that lie beneath the city, was another highlight. Built during the 6th century by over 7000 slaves ...

So I splurged and went to Istanbul Modern for 15 TL. When they say "modern," it's not in the sense that we understand it in North American art history. It's more so "contemporary," and the exhibits feature artists from across the Middle East, which is a neat change from what's shown in Canada. This is art ...

... the best part about this situation is that we get to spend another day in Istanbul. This means I can buy more of the milk nougat with pistachio nuts (that I have been craving for over a week). It also means that we can see the sights that we did not have time for when we were last in Istanbul. These were the Archaeological Museum and going into the Blue Mosque. The Archaeological Museum had a very interesting display of ancient artifacts. Of particular interest to ...
