Hagia Sophia means "Divine Wisdom". For 900 years it served as the "eastern Vatican". When the Ottomans conquered Constantinople in 1453, it was turned into a mosque. However, it still retains some of the earlier Christian mosaics and frescoes, although ...

... Hagia Sophia, blue mosque or Topkapi Palace, we decided to defer this. Instead, we took the tram across the Golden Horn to the newer? part of the city.
