BA

First few days

... 9pm we went out walking again to get some dinner. We ended up eating at about 11pm which is normal, the cafes were packed out with familys having dinner. It is really strange to see children out and about late at night.

Yesterday (Saturday) we went to visit La Recoleta which is a huge histroic graveyard where Evita is buried. I will try to post somephotos. We spent most of the ...

Buenos Aires

Hi again,

We had a superb few days in Buenos Aires to sadly finish our Argentine 6 months. In between wandering around loads of brilliant museums, streets and bars we consumed as much steak, ice-cream and red wine as as physically possible, only to later discover that the Uruguyans aren´t shy of any of those either.
I spent the Sunday morning here ruining breakfast for everyone else by shouting at Millwall´s defeat to ...

Day 25 -May 21: Crazy time at Argentina Futbol

... number.

Despite being requested to be dropped off right near our gate, the taxi driver dropped us off in a neighborhood that did not appear very safe.  First, my friend Steve and I were the whitest skinned gringos in the area.  We wore the local soccer jersey, but were obviously not from the area.  As we arrived to our gate, we were instructed to walk around the area to another gate on the other side of the stadium.  We were not sure why, but all the roads near the stadium were ...

Buenos Dias from Buenos Aires

... anybody in the country (who can afford it) to one day wake up dead. That night we met Mayra, our guide for the next two weeks in Patagonia. We were introduced to the rest of the group and all went out for dinner to get to know each other a bit better. The tour consisted of 6 Australians (one couple from Sydney, another bloke from Sydney, a girl from Brisbane, and two blokes from Melbourne (who were not travelling together)), one American bloke in his 60's, a Danish couple (who were ...

Buenos Aires - Getting Acquaited

... We spend 30 minutes having wine and appetizers and getting to know each other. As is customary you should always bring you hostess a gift, in this case we gave Daniela a coffee table photo book of Las Vegas. Lunch was very good, salad, chicken, mashed potatoes, and for dessert, flan with Dulce de Leche sauce. After lunch we did some shopping before a short rest. Tonight is the tango show at Piazolla in San Telmo.

... if you add sugar to it. Some argentine guy also recomended it with milk, but have heard that that´s what they do for children. Alejandro was also telling me that people all over the place drink it with cold water/ 7-up and al kinds of weird stuff. Who knows, there might be a combination that I actually like! I have a nice set of friends here that I go for lunch with every day. It isn´t as posh as it sounds, we have discovered the supermercado which actually sells hot meals. Very weird ...

... the banana was pummeled on the way to the station and didn't provide much sustenance, since I was only able to eat about half of it. I slept for as much of the two-hour ride to Montevideo as possible. The seas were stormy today, so hopefully there aren't any delays with the ferry to BA. The ferry terminal here definitely isn't as new and shiny as the Buquebus terminal in BA. I napped a good while on board - it ...

Nothing beats a good wake-up bang

... bit of his bresaola, thin slices of Italian salted and cured beef - simple, but good. I originally wanted to go with the same set menu, but none of the courses was appealing to me. Wade selected the pork with orange pepper sauce, a nice light accompaniment that complemented, but didn't overpower the flavour of the pork. Though my cochinillo was great, I would definitely have gone with the set menu instead, had I known this dish would ...
