My first day in Davis, a university city near the state capital Sacramento, was mostly spent at an outlet centre a bit like Bicester. Here I managed to find a fine pair of shorts for a princely $11 and a couple of 'smart' polo shirts at 50% off. I also went into a Taco Bell to get a drink, an experience I'd prefer not to repeat. We noticed a fine set of wheels in the car park, though, as well as a real-life Escalade, decked out with chrome spinning ...

What we didn't enjoy:
The camera lens dying on us right before we got to Grand Teton, then again at the end of the trip.
Motor home parks that were gravel and dirt only.
Traffic noise at night - many parks are off a major highway, near a train track or an airport

More trees per capita than any city in the world? Even Paris? This is a comparison frequently made in Sacramento, in justifying its name as The City of Trees. I've never been to Paris but I can vouch for the fact that Sacramento really has a lot of trees.
