... that :-) On Christmas Day I took Serena to school as usual, but then went to Shanghai by train to meet with Pixie. We met in Xintiandi, one of the French concession areas that I had been to during the National Holiday, and had lunch in a place called The Fountain (which has a fountain outside it haha). ... Host families were invited, but only mine and the ones from Hangzhou came along. There was a speech from the boss of Lopair, then a speech from the Lopair host, and then each family had to give a speech "sharing their cultural experience of having a foreigner in their house". During these speeches, the au pairs were told we could chat amongst ourselves. We all ended up moving over to the play area where the kids were and half whispering to each other, half playing ...

- I like Ms Liang and Serena very much. I couldn't have been matched with a better family. They are without hesitation my 2 favourite people in China and are always helping me. Ms Liang has lent me a load of winter clothes and coats which I'd be totally screwed without. She is always offering me help and always telling me if I need anything, just to ask her. She is a kind lady. Serena continues making me laugh everyday despite her recent stroppiness. I hope that that was just down to ...

... you are still looking out for the colour-blind few who are in too much of a rush to stop; secondly, you have the right turners who will always go whether there is someone crossing or not; and thirdly, e-bikes, scooters and motorbikes (who do actually have a whole car-sized lane to themselves on the road) now become pedestrians and drive along the crossings! It's hell.
