spent the morning trying to send documents to Richard. Nothing quiet works the way it should.
Translator Dianna and Michael and I went to Old Lijiang Town. Dianna is a local, so her knowledge of the old town was amazing. She took us to a very special tea house where we were taught the finer art of tea making and the art of pu er tea selection. We drank tea from the first 3 day of shoots from the top of a tree 2700 year old. Yes 2700 years old!
During our walk Michael helped a ma...
You wont believe this but am writing yesterdays happenings while on a bus from Lijiang to Dali. We are front seats… naturally, and we have a work bench in front of us.
Anyway yesterday started with a sleep-in until 7.30 and a 9.am start. Off to the Black Dragon Pond. This was an Emperors palace garden with natural springs, lakes, temples, magnificent gardens, and marble balustrades everywhere. Many of these structures and building were destroyed during the Mao revolution, but reb...
Sorry about this but I have written so much that this doc wouldn't hold it.
After the tour we headed back to the hotel to send another package of gifts home. Getting gifts is expensive, $300 to send this lot back home. Miaow's mother got a call and asked if we minded if we had an extra for dinner. I said no not a problem. then we found out it was her Buddist Master. We had dinner in the hotels revolving restaurant. the Master, head monk for the region was a lovely guest and we had a gr...

... or fruits. I also went to a dongbei restaurant for some northern chinese food. In the evening, I went to see the famous Naxi Orchestra, located inside a beautiful building in Old Town. All members (26 at last count) are Naxi and play a type of Taoist temple music (known as dòngjīng ) that has been lost elsewhere in China. The pieces they perform are supposedly faithful renditions of music from the Han, Song and Tang dynasties, and ...

Lijiang, Yunnan, China feilipuWe arrived in Lijiang a few days ago and we haven't been able to shift our cold, not for lack of trying. We went out a few nights ago to a supposed Irish bar called Stowe on the Wold and had quite a few Hot Toddies but, especially in Damians case, his runny nose and sore throat have become even worse.

Its not so bad to be ...
Lijiang, Yunnan, China leeanddamo... but lovely. So I went for it. She look me to her house, the traditional Naxi design, one house with a closed courtyard/lawn/tractor/put anything area. We had tea and she wanted me to dress up and take photos, but instead I just shot photos of her. I was never into dress up. Afterwards, I went out to the Banyon Tree where Jude and company was. They had a hot tub in their own private courtyard! It was a great place, so great we ended up having dinner there.
Lijiang, China sasull... loudly some song in Chinese and then shouts to the other group "Yaso Yaso Ya-Ya-So!" (Summer and Vivian told us "Yaso" means "Come on"). I still do not understand how do you win this contest, but it's really amusing to see them doing that. We are now staying and Lijiang and try to decide what to do next. We'll see...
