Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu, India indianature...
Mamallapuram, Tamil Nadu, India nax... in great detail and very weird English all about the Scupltures. As I mentioned before people here speak Tamil English and it is very hard for me to understand. It is not very clear and what i think they say I am often quite mistaken. Prag tried hard to explain to me all about the structures and their gods and why they were carved. Indian architecture is quite astonishing and very interesting. Most of the rock carvings are monolithic ...
Mahabalipuram, India shiden... illegal, but most find ways around it by asking your families name etc. The government is apparently in denial that it is still going on and tends to blame it on the individual villages rather then seeing it as a countrywide problem. After talking with Henry we went outside to what looked like a volleyball court they had set up. We played a game that they call throw-ball (similar to volleyball), SAS verses the nursing students. The first game the nursing ...
Kanchipuram, India libby824... that we were all white (he was Indian by the way), he took us to this ****** house with half the specifications it was supposed to have. We refused to stay in it, and after arguing for 10 minutes he took us to the house we were actually supposed to have, a beautiful house with a pool about 1/2 mile from a beautiful beach. He then proceeded to ask my friend James for an 'extra gift' based on his help.. which we promptly ignored. My friend James, is half ...
Mamallapuram, India melissa_adams... goods and ideas from China, the Fertile Crescent, and elsewhere. No reminder of this is stronger than perhaps the millions of Christians in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. This Christianity is not your typical 1500s Portugese missionary Catholicism. Instead, it's roots lie in the teachings of St. Thomas. St. Thomas, sent by Jesus to India, became a martyr in Chennai, speared while sharing the gospel. A cathedral in town bears his name, and allegedly a crypt holds his remains ...
Chennai, Mammalapuram, Chidambaram, and Kanchipuram, India lraleigh... paper, tea dust and other knobly nogs! They put it in a big container, sloshed it around, got of a bucket of green stuff, slapped it in a square mesh thingy magiggy, pushed it down with another net, then left it to dry on a washing line. They then made it straight and polished it, sometimes they marble it, and make it into boxes and other really nice items.
Pondicherry, India friends007... sharing a double bed... western filth indeed :-) Ash's brother Vikram takes us shopping in the van. Oh my god! We wander through the streets. Crossing the streets seems a bit tough for the non-backpackers among us. We enter one shop and are rushed upstairs. Ladies show me things, mostly these pyjama type salwar kameez, from behind the counter faster than I can take in, and I feel ...
