... Can't see much from this hotel, but tomorrow we shall Romeo and Juliet to our hearts content.

Epilogue: Connor was just watching tv and there on the screen, coming to us live from Milan, is a huge open air rock concert. Right in front of the Duomo. That explains all the sound equipment we saw in the cathedral today - we had just through they got big crowds there for mass. Lucky we didn't get caught in that - methinks the Aunties would not have been impressed

Ahh the feeling of waking up with no alarm, nothing planned and nowhere to be.

We are still in the lovely Lake Como region, the day has started a little overcast, but its warm and we are in a hotel overlooking a lake. Its so freakin wonderful I have no words to describe this.

We went down to breakfast at the very civilised time of 8am, there was cereal, yoghurt, cold meats, eggs, pastries and breads and fruits. Lots to choose from. A jug ...

... afternoon, Nathan, Tilly and I, had our first of what I hope will be many excursions into Milan. We took the bus from near our apartment to a metro stop and then the metro to the Duomo. It was pretty surreal to climb the stairs out of an underground train station see the enormous cathedral gradually emerge, step by step. We wandered around the shops and I took them to "Panzerotti Luini" which was as amazing as the first time and slightly less busy! Then we went for Nathan ...

... d'Orcia nor in Perugia. There is deep spirituality in simplicity and we are moved by the many religious who have taken their vows of poverty. (Used to mean 'please', 'you are welcome' or even 'excuse me', 'prego' is often heard in Italy. Literal translation supposedly is 'I pray'. Together with 'grazie', you could hold a short conversation. Of course, who can forget the night clerk in Florence who gave us our key with a flourish, a smile and 'prego, ...

... the accompanying talk was a wonderful experience – not to be missed if in Milan. Of interest was the fact that so precious did the people consider the painting (which covers an entire interior wall of the church), that, during the War, it was protected from bomb damage by sandbags, and in fact survived a hit on an adjacent wall that left debris throughout the room but failed to damage the artwork.
