Today we awoke to the most amazing day. Blue sky, not a cloud in sight... The perfect day for exploring the lost city of Pompeii.
The story goes that the people of Pompeii were living their lives and going about their business with absolutely no idea that the mountain that they were living under the shadow of, was in fact a volcano! As you can imagine, they were then quite shocked to discover one morning after a great ...

At the end of the day, I find the nearest train station, ride back to Napoli, walk to the hostel, check Google Maps to see how far I went, set out my shoes ...

Early in the morning we sped away in a Mercedes Benz minivan heading south towards Napoli. We drove and drove and drove until we reached Napoli and the exit for Pompeii. Our driver took us to the area where we met our tour guide for the Pompeii excavation site. Our guide was wonderful; She took us to the back entrance/exit to avoid the queue and the hoards of tour groups. Through the gates of Pompeii we entered the exercise yard and areas where the gladiators were housed. This entire ...

... 00am train. Once I purchased my reservation, I tried to use a pay phone to call Veronica, but I could not for the life of me figure out how to use it. I tried putting the money in and then dialing and I tried dialing then putting the money in and it just kept saying things at me in Italian. So, I left Rome without letting Veronica know that I would be arriving about 30 minutes later in Naples than planned.

Just as a note, Veronica is a ...
