      Day 061: 6 hours, 13.0 kms

This is almost too easy: I get up in the morning, check my email as well as take a look at Google Maps to plan out my itinerary… grab my free breakfast… walk to the train station and catch a train to the spot where I ended my hike the day before. At the end of the day, I find the nearest train station, ride back to Napoli, walk to the hostel, check Google Maps to see how far I went, set out my shoes ...

Early in the morning we sped away in a Mercedes Benz minivan heading south towards Napoli. We drove and drove and drove until we reached Napoli and the exit for Pompeii. Our driver took us to the area where we met our tour guide for the Pompeii excavation site. Pompeii was very crowded and there were many tour groups from cruise ships and bus tours etc. For example, one of the main attractions was the brothel where they have raunchy frescoes and you can still see graffiti from the satisfied customers of 2000 years ago! We made two or three attempts to visit the old *****house, but ...

... around the island and got back onto land. We had about an hour to spare so we took a nap on the nearest beach and got back on the ferry back to Sorrento.

The next morning we woke up fairly early and took a bus to Positano. Unfortunately it was raining all day so we couldn’t enjoy the beach there (which is the reason to go) but we still made it fun. It was also Emily’s 20th birthday so we celebrated that all day. ...

... towns and hiked up Mt Subasio just like St. Francis did in the 1100s. The weather was so so… a couple of beautiful sunny days did visit us.We really enjoyed the farm fresh eggs, home made olive oil, jam, pesto, herbs and lettuce that came gratis. And all the spinach we could eat.!!

Now to Amalfi: WARNING: Do NOT bring a car here. You will regret it as we did. The roads are serpentine and bordered by stone walls. And the drivers all think they are Enzo ...
