Back in Kagaroo Flat

Had a nice cool ride up to Bendigo this morning. Stopped in Kyneton for morning tea, arriving in Kangaroo Flat (a Bendigo suburb) about noon.

Went out for a drive around the area to see where the recent bushfires had made their marks. Quite extensive damage around here, but this upcoming fire season may be even worse. Did my best to help, bring in 25-30mm of ...

The longest journey begins with but a single step

OK, so Bendigo isn't that far, and we've been there before (many happy times), but when you leave home at 4.00pm this is how far you get. (For us Diggers' Rest is actually Bendigo.) Yummy spag bog, a comfy driveway for the trailer and a warm welcome awaited us at Judy and Ian's.

Great to see the all the "kids" grown into such fine young people.
We passed the arvo playing hookey, something I am not the best at, Dad and I managed to beat Mum, Gran and Nanna at hookey cricket though. I then went through all the goodbyes again, Auntie Carmel and Uncle Arthur had come around so I said goodbye to them, Gran and finally Nanna.Mum and Dad insisted upon leaving for the ...

The Queen's English

... football crowd is not the best place to expect perfect speech but it took me a while to adjust and understand the conversation... "caaaaaarn the pies!""yeah carn wade til we ged to the fooddy""where youse sidding?" For those still none the wiser, the first statement is someone expressing their support for Collingwood, the second someone expressing their anticipation to get to the match, and the third an enquiry as to ...

Bendigo

G'day everyone, We travelled to Bendigo and found a good central position at the Bendigo showgrounds for a three night stay. The weather here is still up in the high thirties to low forties so we were quick to find the indoor aquatic centre to cool down and spend the day. We didn't seem to do much in Bendigo other than shopping in the town and stopping to take photos of the beautiful old buildings and the great ...

Bendigo - Home During my trip around Australia I drove just on 25000 kilometres and saw many amazing sights. I can't wait to get back to many of them, and am certainly planning more travelling both in Australia and overseas in the future. I can now say that I most certainly have the travel bug! Bring it on!

My first week in Oz

Well Jay has told me to write a little something about my trip and I've given in. I'll write it on a weekly basis because I don't think Australia is really as drastically different as the Middle East (not so much that I can write everyday about it). Okay so I dropped Jay off in dubai, flew to Sydney, and flew to Melbourne. Paid for a 50 dollar cab ride to the Conservation Volunteers Australia office. There I met fellow volunteers and found out we were all being sent ...

Christmas in Bendigo

... and where I took the train to, it is rumoured that you can cross the town through the mines without ever having to go above the surface, it is also rumoured that mole people live down there, but this is slightly harder to believe. Echuca is another nearby town, that is famous for paddle steamers, I'm not sure why but they have a lot of them and we decided to have a ride along the Murray (Australia's longest river) on a ...
