BCTE=Best Camping Trip Ever!

... them on chop sticks. All together there were about 40-50 of us camping but we were split into 3 different groups of campfires so it didn’t seem like so many. Beijing

... We didn't finish up till after 7 the next morning, the Scandinavians know how to enjoy themselves. Took a stroll around Tianamen Square. The buildings around the square are pretty ugly but the image I had in my head was of the student that stood in front of the tank during protests in this very square in 1989. There's so much police and security around now that I couldn't imagine any disturbance breaking out today. Chairman Mao's body is ...

... that I would have taken, had my betteries not been dead. But luckily it happened towards the end, so I have most things, I'll try to put them up tomorrow (not all off course!). The weather in Beijing is really damp and hot, from the moment we step out of our A/C'ed room we start to sweat! Anyway, we had a lovely day today, and the Forbidden City was nothing short of breathtaking and just too beautiful. Tomorrow we ...

... leaders who had eaten there including Fidel Castro and George Bush - pretty cool! The restaurant is the oldest of its kind in Beijing and began in 1864. Despite my "vegetarianism" and all I'd heard about how delicious duck is, I had to try it! 'When in Rome...' It was really good, and we all enjoyed a nice leisurely dinner and lots of delicious Chinese tea (which tasted and is, SO much better than Japanese tea!) After dinner we were given a certificate with the ...

The Imperial Palace (Forbidden City)

... least until dusk when homes start burning coal again. There were some funny moments when we sat down by a tree to rest and two Chinese guys courageously asked to have his photo taken with us. That opened the floodgates. People who were shy before now came up to us to have their photos taken with the Americans. We actually had a line of people waiting to do this, and decided we'd better move out before there was no escape. Fame isn't what it's cracked up to be....
