birds, turtles, sand and water...

... Kings tombs carved into the cliff face walls before reaching turtle beach... Unfortunately we were too late in the season to see the females come up and lay their eggs or the hatchlings - but the beach was beautiful, clean white sand and ************e on it.. On the way back to the boat, I joined the tour group as we scouted around the pier looking for turtles that had been spotted earlier ...

Ruined by Tourism

... There have been quite a few places I have been and been grateful for the big and small things I am used to - whether it be a well prepared meal, a western style toilet or even just people able to speak English. I think the problem starts when an area actively TRIES to be a tourist haven.

In this case the local shops all stop trying to be pleasant shops of whatever culture or vibe they might normally choose, but instead try ...

Strange how everything seems so familiar!

... about doing it with a large backpack. We soon found ourselves hanging on to ropes trying to descend sheer drops.

After the pleasant walk down we thought we would try and make it straight for the waterfall, as the beach seemed a bit crowded with tour boats. Shona doesn't necessarily think the effort for the waterfall was worth it. But we basically had it to ourselves and had a nice little lunch. We spent the rest of the day just relaxing ...

... around. I got to go in first while Chris and Damien watched, but the guard was too alert for any subterfuge. It wasn't really a problem, as the baths were also a giant waste of money. I barely noticed the warm water, so busy was I dodging swirls of green goo and flaccid pink Germans. We wandered around the ancient ruins and in the early afternoon made our way to the Marmaris peninsula on the south coast.

... up at Troy. Instead we were whisked out of the park without time to climb the steps of the theater (which, given how steep it was, maybe wasn't that bad...). It was one of those things that didn't really matter, it just bothered me, because of what came next...

It wasn't like we were whisked away from Pergamum so that we could head straight to Kusadasi and get in at an earlier hour... We left so that we could go to an Onyx factory...yes, an Onyx factory ...

... smaller one's tail, and was seeking a higher clutch. Which, in a blur of motion it managed. There they froze, not even to move when I prodded them with a length of dried grass. They just froze there, each of their hearts visibly beating away. Lost

... At Kabak village we walked down into a valley to the beach. After two days of hiking, we felt sore, hot and sweaty, so the beach below looked like paradise. It's in a secluded cove, surrounded with mountains and the water was clear and turquoise. After a swim and some relaxing in the sun we found a nice spot for a few drinks until it was time to hike back up to catch the bus back to Fethiye. Tomorrow we head off on a Blue Cruise for 4 days.

Gület trip on Turkish Mediterranean coast

... to reposition the boat closer to the shelter of the shore, where there is a large, flash cruise boat. Maybe the areas are allocated. We have a very good dinner of pan-sized bream type fish (bought in Kas) then all twelve of us to bed by 11.30, on the cabin top, without the boom tent over (no-one is allowed to sleep on the back lounge area tonight). There is a lot of partying on the other boats, and some breeze in the night, but it has ...

Paragliding in Olu Deniz

... Fethiye. After some jumping and safety instructions, we made the 45-minute trek up the mountain in a jeep to the 6400 ft high peak. After getting all geared up (we each did a tandem jump with a guide), we ran three steps and then off the cliffside we went. Similar to hot air ballooning, it was a very surreal experience...beautiful views while just floating in the air...we were able to get some great pics (from our ...

... and burned, and it was painful to step on them until circulation warmed them back up! Once on the other side of the river, you could warm up by hiking the gorge, which was beautiful as the inside walls were all white marble! The gorge walls were easily 100+ feet high, and top to bottom was nothing but white smooth marble. Absolutely beautiful. For lunch we had fresh fish caught from the gorge river. Apparently, during the winter months, the gorge is not ...
