... some already queuing even though the train didn't leave for over an hour. At some point, soon after the train has arrived, you then show your tickets again, and they are punched, before making your way to the platform where the train will already be waiting. The common carriages for long distance journeys are hard sleeper. These have 6 berths per open compartment, and around 10 compartments per carriage. Local specialties include a hotpot that's could almost transform its eaters into fire-breathers - think hot chili oil used for pizzas, add more chillies, and then deep try everything in this in front of you. I love it.


Another city attribute was its abundance of excellent tea house - we from a really quaint one in the middle of People's Park at which you can have your ears professionally cleaned but the traditional Chinese method, very strange. ...

... not going as planned, making stupid mistakes and an increasing list of lost items, I am indeed having a "pleasurable trip". The more familiar I get with the Chinese way of doing things and the whole backpacker life, the more I'm enjoying myself.
