... polite and somber applause as Video Girl finished the last cannolo and licked the residual icing sugar from the tray, a somewhat dangerous practice. The Venetians were gracious in defeat congratulating the newly crowned Cannoli Queen but saddened that the title was leaving Italy for the first time ever. As Video Girl walked from the store wearing her sash and tiara she turned to Battery Boy and said, "What's for lunch?"

It was over a four hour car ride to Venice, so we left at 4:30 in the morning. I was able to sleep the whooooole way. The very first thing we did was ride in a gondola! I am telling you, it is just as spectacular as you would think! It was made even greater by the warm sunshine, and quiet streets ...
... s very tasty. The owner is also a very charismatic guy and speak very good English. They have the menu in many languages. It's not in the easiest place to find but there are so many customers. I get it's the cheapest you can find in Venice. They packed them in takeaway boxes and we ate them on the street outside. Great choice. Should have checked earlier. Lesson learnt.

Today is a travelling day but before we leave Portovenere, we can enjoy the hospitality of our host Andrea, company of his staff Leon (his dog!) and the beautiful view across the bay of Portovenere whilst having our breakfast.

Venice is traditionally known for glass ware and beautiful masks, and there is no shortage of shops selling both the real stuff and cheap copies of them.
