... to get us out at the right exit. We knew that this hotel was not in the greatest part of town when we booked it but knew this would be just a place to sleep in Osaka and we wouldn't be spending much time in the room. As we walked closer to the hotel we started to recognise some of the signs around us, we had been some where very similar only a couple days before, the red light district. It was light and empty but it was quite obvious that this is why we were so central for ...

... lights looked awesome. We picked a restaurant pretty quick because we were all starving. Xavier got talking to a French couple who were sat next to us. They recommended that we tried Okonomiyaki with is a fried cabbage pancake. Doesn't sound that amazing, but it was fantastic and they cooked it right in front of you. Along with many other people we made our way through the water lighting, and arrived at a field with loud music playing. I could see it was a lighting display, but couldn't get near it, since the crowds had obviously queued there in anticipation waiting for it to start. Today I had many greetings to do, including a speech in front of the students at school assembly. What I didn't know was that I had to do a speech at the staff meeting as well, so I was caught a bit off guard! But I guess I managed to spit something out. I met a number of teachers, and hopefully soon I will get to know the other teachers in the English department. I was given my own desk and even my own cellphone. I was ...

... call it a night.
Sunday we rode in style on the Shinkansen, or bullet train, to Kyoto. After a short bus ride, our touring started with Nijo Castle. The main palace is huge, 3,300 square meters of linked sections. You have to take your shoes off to tour it and pictures are prohibited. The rooms are mostly void of furniture but the sliding doors are lavishly decorated. The floor in the palace has an intentional squeak which was used as a security device to hear anyone ...
