... very small rural border zone. No-one mentioned this legal requirement and we certainly did not notice any signs. But ignorance is no excuse and does not let us off the hook.

I have a post about when i went to Magaluf a year later and i was a lot worse on that holiday than i was on this one...however i think this one set off my two years of drinking excessively...then again i could have just been at that age when you are learning just how much drink you can handle. In my case being around 5 foot 7 i realised pretty soon my body couldn't handle that much!

... bit of English. Eventually he called me over and said "ah boat people", smiled at his joke, scribbled in my passport and said we could go.... so we did. The Bulgarian side was actually pretty swift but I was glad we had read that we had to buy a road tax sticker because 20km down the road we were stopped by the police for a "vignette" check. A quick look at the sticker and passport and off we went. ...

... blokes looked a bit teary! One gent compared Rich to St Nicholas and it does feel a bit like playing Father Christmas when you go into a darkened room where folk are sleeping and you leave Christmas shoeboxes on their bedside tables for when they wake...

... was called something like Kawarma. It was so tasty – a combination of pork, onions, and a tomato-based sauce. I had it with chips; nummers. Paul had a barbeque skewer, which was also very tasty. Lunch was not cheap (not outrageous, but very different from when we were in Bulgaria in 1990), but it was so much better than most of what we’ve had to eat on the ship.
