... Knights rebuilt in Malta. Although the Turks ruled justly there was a general decline in commerce and building over the next 400 years. The Italians took over the Island in 1912 and Mussolini restored much of the architecture. Eventually Rodos was handed back to Greece in 1948. Phew! A bit of a potted history! You can tell we have a sea day and I have a bit more time on my hands! We set off about 8.30 and took the bus past the old city and along the coast with long beaches and ...

A day on Crete, enjoying great mild weather, some 4,000 year old culture, fruits of the forest, home made wine and our first ever swim in the Mediterranean. Not a bad life. Another city (Heraklion) shut down by protests, this time students against police violence. We teamed up with our kiwi posse and hired a convoy of taxis that did a few of the sights. Really friendly and informative. They thought we were a bit crazy wanting to swim (as it's now out of season). But I ...

We had a morning tour Sue and Darren - a lovely couple who are not about religion and are well travelled and down to earth. We had a great day with them and wish now we were doing the Holy Land with them as they have a car and driver and space for two more......... We were on our way by 0830 and into the old town to see a bit of it before it was closed down to traffic. name the sites stopped pottery - name of vessel lindros lunch walk about white ...

We were unexpectedly able to dock rather than tender in this port. After breakfast we headed up the path towards the cave and the monastery of St. John. I was a bit of a reluctant participant but Joey was walking regardless. I had spoken to the tour desk before leaving and they indicated that the path did not go all the way to Chora. She did give me directions to the lower half of the path. As we left the port we walked up the street facing the gate and before the ...

Our last breakfast. The waiter Buddy was back from his break so though we said we would see him at lunch we knew we probably would not. He would only be upset when we did not give him a tip. He was OK always a friendly welcome but his table saving antics were a bit OTT. We wandered around the town a bit, Barry got another Turkish shave, but not such a good one as the first who was too busy. We bought some Turkish delight for work and for Joanne ...
