Hoi An
Sep 13, 2008

Tonight is a big festival here in Hoi An!! It is the first fool moon of autumn, which means they are closing down the streets and there are going to be festivities. For the last two days there have been large groups of boys parading around town in dragon costumes with drums. They enter businesses and dance around until someone gives them money. ...

Hoi An Day 2
Jul 19, 2008

Got up real early 4.30am with Jo to go and see some Cham ruins. These temples were built about 7th to 11th centuries and were very similar to the ones I saw in Cambodia last year. They were all pretty much dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva. There were also Lingas to see (same same as Cambodia). It took us about an hour to get there by bus and we ...

Arriving in Hoi An - central coast
May 1, 2008 (2 photos)

Arrived in Hoi An at around 7am after a wierd night on the sleeper bus. Our driver stopped for a 30 minute dinner around 1 hour into the trip. In true fashion he decided not to say anything, walk into the roadhouse and sit down and order several dishes and drinks. Most people had not long dozed off to sleep with the lights off, a few got off to ...

Uh oh...computer is sick...
Apr 13, 2008

Hello everyone!! Well here we are sweating our butts off in a internet cafe with no fans and no air-con, waiting for our overnight bus from here, Hoi An, to Nha Trang. Our laptop has a virus and we won't be able to use it for a bit. I guess we haven't been doing to well at keeping upwith this blog anyways, but there may be a bit of a lack of upd...

Hoi An
Apr 12, 2008

April 13th 2008 (with me again!) Hoi An was our next stop in our Vietnam adventure and we were looking forward to it. Kylie had heard so much about how you can get clothes and boots made to fit and she was very excited ! (you can get anything custom fit!! ANYTHING!!) It was a bumpy but not an overnight ride on the bus (whew), 5 hours if I recall...

Hey y'all... Apologies for not writing for a little while now, we've been ridiculously busy and to be honest just having a bit too much of a good time! So...after a couple of chilled days in Nha Trang we headed north to the beautiful little town of Hoi An, a place that is famous for... SHOPPING!! Sar was unbelievably excited about our stay there...

Day 3 of no sleep/The most eventful coach so far
Mar 29, 2008 (3 photos)

Friday 28th March After 12 sweaty, sleepless hours we arrived in the peaceful town of Hoi An. The 3 of us decided to head to a hotel called Greenfields as it had a swimming pool and free cocktails between 6.30 and 7.30! By 9am it must have already been at least 25 degrees, so a swim in the cold water felt like heaven! A hour or so later we went ...

I can't think of a pun for Hoi An
Mar 22, 2008

SO we arrived, after a hideous coach trip, with wee stops behind buildings and lights out at 8pm. And lights on at 10pm, and 11pm, and midnight and the driver honking the horn like a lunatic continuously. We got to Hue, where we hoped to look round. but the company had messed up our tickets so i SHOUTED for the first time since we left Bris. and...

31st Aug - 1st Sept 2007 Yesterday was an early rise for the full day tour of Hue. The morning was dedicated to visiting the ancient tombs of the kings of the Nguyen dynasty. The 3 tombs that we visited were Minh Mang, Tu Duc and Kiah Dinh. We also visited the incense and conical hat making villages. We then returned to Hue city centre for lunch...

Nice People BAD LOCATION

from A TripAdvisor User on 2006-06-19
Everyone here was extremely nice and helpful. HOWEVER, I would not stay here again for two reasons. First and foremost, the location is horrible. It is a long HOT walk into the downtown part of Hoi An (tailors, museums, restaurants). Keep in mind that there are virtually no taxis in Hoi An, only cyclos and motorbikes. Walking into town, I noticed that there are many hotels right in the heart of the city. There is nothing unique about Greenfield to make worth the trouble. My other issue was security. The window onto the balcony didn't lock properly, and neither did the deadbolt or the bathroom door. Basically all you have is one very simple lock on the front door. I came to this hotel on a basis of the many good reviews, unfortunately I found it to be quite a disappointment.

My best hotel in Hoi An and Viet Nam also

from Thomas_top on 2006-03-27
We enjoy our vacation every year in Hoi An, this is a excellent hotel, great staff and facilities ,and check out the food, best we've had in Hoi An so far...and that says alot! One more good thing is the nearby "ABC" tailors which was recommended by the staff. Wonderful tailors, bought 12 suits and more between us!

Great value !!!

from A TripAdvisor User on 2006-03-22
The satff were really friendly and always smilling. They also show an interest in what we were doing and what we required, which was nice. We booked the room through their website, stayed 4 nights and get free airport pick-up service ( 10-12 USD),that's a interesting bonus. The nice swimming pool that very good for a hot season in Hoi An.

Clean hotel, good service

from A TripAdvisor User on 2006-03-19
This is a very friendly hotel. It is a short walk to the main area, but it is a nice safe and clean place with a good pool. It also has free cocktails round the pool daily 6.30pm - 7.30pm, which is a great way to meet people if you are travelling alone.

Every thing is great

from A TripAdvisor User on 2006-03-15
We have stayed 3 nights in the green field hotel 7-10 march 2006. I'm very surprised on the last day when we've checked out, each of us have received a Hoi-An (chinese) lantern as a goodbye gift of the hotel. The location of the hotel is really good, very short walk to the Ancient Town and 5 min ride to the beach. We have had the advantage of the swimming pool. The breakfast is weird, their fried eggs is an omelette, their omelette is scrambled eggs, chinese noodle soup is vietnamese pho, vietnamese noodle soup is packed noodle. Each day we've received a packet of fruit. It's wonderful. Thanks to Phuong for arranging our flight to Saigon.

The best hotel

from Steven_Gerrard_Mr on 2006-03-04
A lovely hotel, the nicest one we have stayed in so far in Vietnam . All the staff are really friendly and helpful. Really enjoyed our stay here at Green Field Hotel. I surely recommend this hotel to my friends. We look forward to coming back.

We loved Hoi An and Green Field Hotel.

from A TripAdvisor User on 2006-02-23
We loved Hoi An including our stay at Green Field Hotel. The staff were just lovely and very helpful. The hotel is a very short walk into the centre of town and about a 15 minute ride to the beach. A bonus is the great dress shop/tailor only 2 minutes walk towards town called ABC which was recomended by the hotel and proved to be the best place to have clothes made (we had things made in both the market and ABC and will go directly to ABC next time). Green Field was the best place we stayed in during our visit to Vietnam. Thanks to all the staff for a great stay!

A great budget all-rounder

from A TripAdvisor User on 2006-01-21
This is an older style hotel but the rooms and bathrooms are very pleasant, and there is a very nice pool area (not to mention the free evening cocktail!). Best of all the staff are very friendly and helpful, and even helped me with finding a hotel in my next stop. The free internet between 0600 and 1600 is very handy. For USD20 per night for a couple you can't beat it.

Wonderful hotel

from C_Alex on 2005-12-04
I would like to recommend this hotel for many things. It has nice rooms, very friendly helpful staff, etc. One of the most important things, it give me the acceptable price.

Comfortable rooms, lovely swimming pool and good prices

from ladykiller on 2005-11-29
Good place to stay with a reasonable price and helful staff. I will stay here again if I have a trip to Hoi An.
