... was room for us to stay the night. After scratching his head for a few minutes the guy said to stay on the fuel wharf and he closed it for the night. Excellent timing, because all the yachts after us were turned away. We cooked a quick meal and settled in for the night, only to realise we had a party of drunken dutchmen on the yacht behind us singing football songs. We'll be glad to get out of here and enjoy the peace of the ocean.

The car was a diesel and took some getting used to - it had an odd shift from first to second, and I'm not used to shifting at such low revs. But the low-rev torque was pretty sweet for the low-speed curves today. A gas engine would've had trouble in third gear and second gear wouldn't have provided enough speed, but this car negotiated the curves beautifully in third. First stop - Hermigua. ... window. It was pretty well set up - there was a communal oven, and some of the huts had radio masts and heavily locked doors. There was a pumping house with water fed down from the main road, and fairy lights strung up on the track down from the road... but all completely deserted. very bizarre. I haven't been able to find out anything more about it, but someone did suggest it might be the summer camp for all the hippies ...

Today we get the ferry back to SS in the morning, with all our stuff finally dry. We had thought of going to La Palma but ferry tickets are ridiculously expensive - so miss that out and we'll go back to Tenerife after a couple more days here. We return to the nice quiet pensione, walk up to the top of town, shop at the market, sit in the square watching people for a bit, and then cook dinner on the beach.
