... passed by lots of carrot plantations and then tea plantations. We actually went vertically up through some of the tea bushes which was really hardwork! Cant imagine doing it with a basket of tea leaves on my head. We also saw some workers picking the tea, Rajiv said they would be women hand picking the leaves but actually it was men using a machine to pick the leaves! Sort of like shears with a square basket underneath!

... study in Germany for awhile. He was picked up at the airport in Frankfurt and driven for three hours to the home of his hosts. Finally he could hold in his thoughts no longer - and he blurted out, "Sir, doesn't your horn work?" For Indians, it is impossible to imagine driving for a minute - much less for three hours - without honking the horn. I think that the horns here are activated by pressing on the brakes.

... a full-fledged head cold. The result of this is that I can’t do many of the things that I had hoped to do. For example, I won’t be able to start my exercise program in earnest for as long as I’m sick.

Our house servant, Shankar, was back today, washing Georgies trousers cleaner than I ever can, and preparing our days meals. He said he needed more money so I handed him 500 rupees.
Though we were meant to be leaving today we decided to stay one more day, and the next day we would leave for Kotagiri.

... waste. Next good move would be to ban cars from Ooty, make it pedestrian only.
We visited the Modern Store and purchased out of curiosity crystallised amla, an Indian gooseberry like fruit, very good for the health.

I wanted to keep exploring in the dark but Rosina was tired, so back uphill we walked, to the house of Nandanam, to an evening of our music, a little dancing, reading aloud to the children a book about tigers, and eating our pre-prepared curd rice.
