Call me a cynic if you like, but to be frank, I don't give a ****. Myself and Chris are now unable to emotionally or mentally cope with this place! So, here's just a few more anecdotes to entice you to this wonderful country: Chris had a china plate thrown at him in the street the other day. As I was returning to my hotel, a lady suddenly turned into a state of incandescant rage as soon as she saw me. She starting raving and screeching in the street in broad-daylight. ... I didn't come home empty-handed.
We then went on to The Water Puppet Theater (I have to start at remembering Vietnamese names now - so hopeless). Kids were delighted and so was I. It was a cultural performance and colorful and entertaining. Not that you want to see the same show again and again but it was refreshing than Disney on Ice or High School Musical.
We went on rickshaws (I can't remember what they are called ...
... a couple of roads we got it, and found a lovely restaurant so treated ourselves to some local food. After that we went on a bit of a pub crawl to check out the area and see if we saw anyone we knew, which we didn't.
Next day we met up with an English girl whom Gareth had met the night before who was working out here as a teacher and she took us out on a mini-tour on the back of her bike. 3 adults on a motorbike, a tight squeeze! Although ...
... easy, passports reluctantly handed over, a bit of staring, a bit of queuing and we were through. Really surprised about the border probably because in my head I had expected a dusty wild west set up where there was a possibility of me having to negotiate my travel into the country. However it reminded me a bit of being doing the Dover-Calais trip, the area was built up, lots of shops but with about 12 casinos within walking distance of the border.
I was excited about Vietnam ...
... I opted to lounge on the sun deck and do absolutely nothing, as I knew with just one day more in Vietnam, this was the vacation I truly needed before going home. The weather was gorgeous - sunny with a slight breeze, and a few cottony white clouds to momentarily block the sun and offer a little relief from the heat. After a bit of reading, listening to music and dozing off, the kayakers returned and I joined ...

... seems like every multinational company wants to construct premises in Hanoi.
The trip through the countryside is most interesting as there is an ever changeing landscape.
The first stop is at a factory reported to sell goods made by the "victims of agent orange".
The range of goods on sale is huge the craftmanship of the work is first class . I manage to take one photo of a large marble lion betore I am reminded of the sign saying no photos allowed ...
... are going to quarantine him and us! We stopped at Ping Xiang and got off the train. We put our carry on bags through the scanner, but left our luggage on board. We were told that they were rechecking our temperatures. We waited for an hour and then reboarded the train and we sat without moving for a while. Bill and I did some more reading and did not let the Mongolian close the door to our room. After a while the train started moving again and we tried to get some sleep.
