... tourists, so we returned the favor and pulled them into our pictures too! The entire place was great, and many of us said it was our favorite destination so far.

However, that sentiment changed pretty quickly as we took to a "Chinese gondola" for a tour of the Grand Canal. The century old homes that lined the canal were really interesting. Before the light faded, we hopped off of the boat and wound our way through a neighborhood ...
Suzhou, Jiangsu, China dabrander... has changed through the years. We finally pass by the giant statue of Mao guarding over the school entrance as we pedal through the gates. Every morning we look forward to our bike ride down this fascinating stretch of road. A few weeks ago, as we were riding along taking it all in, we agreed that we had to give the street a name. Sesame Street seemed like the perfect fit. A bustling, teeming, energetic and happy place.
Suzhou, Jiangsu, China loisal99... br>I am not sure if I have always been a bit of a wimp at crossing the road. I grew up in a small village but did move to the big city when I was 12 and don’t remember being traumatised. Maybe the Tufty club did a good job or maybe it was just the sense of immortality that the young have. It was many years later that Julie pointed out that my desire to hold her hand as we crossed the road was more for my benefit than hers as she had ...
Suzhou, Jiangsu, China travellin.light... Lois teaches English classes and an ESL class. Our biggest class has about 25 students.

Lunch is at 11:30am. Here's the big difference between teaching in BC and teaching in China. The lunch break here is 2 hours long. When I first heard about this I thought it was crazy!!! But all of the BC teachers, including me, love having the long lunch break. After the first 30 minutes of lunch the campus becomes a ghost town because all of the ...

Suzhou, Jiangsu, China chinachopsticks... is the relationship that lasts and defines you on a long term :). In the afternoon we went to the Silk Factory which was the "ueber tourist" experience and basically a shopping trip - I didn't know that you have to BOIL silk worms - kill them to get silk - hmmm ... animal protection has a long way 2 go :) (arrrgh, now the screaming kid is gone and my wonderful french neighbors are in the pool - La vie des animaux :) yea damn ... in times like these: homo ...
Suzhou, Jiangsu, China zalazala... in town, and climbed it part way. Afterwards, we went to the Humble Administrator's Garden, which is widely regarded as one of the best gardens in China. It takes up 4 hectacres on the southeast side of the city and is well worth the RMB 70 ($10) admission. There was peace and quiet and it was a blessed escape after the past few days. I would've returned there today, but it is raining. Last night, we went to the Master of Nets Garden for the evening ...
Suzhou, China meryddian... Well worth the 15 Yuan entrance fee. There is also plenty of English to help understand what you are actually looking at and usually a shot history lesson as well.

I then continued along Dongbei Jie which took me towards the cities north east corner.

Soon I came to the cities 'Tourist Area'. Here can be found bus loads of both foreign and Chinese ...
Suzhou - Jiangsu Province, China eddakathNot much happened today. Schedule: Shopping on famous street until 11:30. Bought some bracelets. Ate lunch at cool restaurant with girls dancing. Suzhou, China dcook... a right pair of wrong'uns and I often wonder what would have happened should I have gone with them. Something deeply unpleasant I'm sure. I have happy memories of the following cab journey, when, after finally getting the driver to understand where I was going, we both sat & babbled at each other in our respective languages & had a little sing song while we were at it(yes I'd had more than one cheeky beer!). We understood each other perfectly.
