Jewish Ghetto I started the morning farewelling Tow - who is heading to London for 2 days then back to Sydney, and Deutsch - heading to Thailand to have the **** beaten out of him, for 6 weeks of muay thai martial arts training. Brad, our roommate, headed with me to the Jewish Ghetto, the world's oldest, where we took a 40-minute tour by an unenthusiastic lady who assumed everybody knew every Hebrew and Yiddish slang term she'd slip in. The community now is tiny, numbering only a few hundred...
Milan, Italy danesternDuomo This is I think the 3rd largest Cathedral in Europe, and it was pretty full because it's a Catholic holiday. A Cardinal conducted the service with some powerful music, and then he made an odd trip outside where the TV cameras filmed him, flanked by many priests, blessing individual congregants. Virgin Rock 'n' Music exhibit This was mad, filled with memorabilia from all the greatest rock and pop stars, focussing pretty heavily on the Rolling Stones, Elvis, and the Beatles. They had som...
Milan, Italy danesternHotel: Hotel Greco (Nice hotel but it was well away from the center of town, but good bus and subway connections made it rather convenient). Finding the hotel was an adventure. Dinner and Lunch: Flash Ristorante--Pizzaria--Griglieria Jeff is pictured working up an appetite for our return to Flash. He climbed up on the roof of the Milan Duomo. Earlier in the day we did get the coveted opportunity see Da Vinci's Last Supper. Typically you need to book tickets to see the Last Supper well in adva...

... scene of a small bridge arching over the deep river with mountains standing on either side decorated by red, orange, yellow and green trees and houses with red roofs stacked along the side. I wanted to live there and I had no idea where we were. Soon the sun melted behind the horizon spilling pinks, purples and tangerines upon the blue sky. Before we reached Geneve the sky turned black and nothing could be seen of the landscape.
When I got off in Geneve, I ...

... from the point there though which was cool.
Ferry back from Belaggio to Como was a lot quicker (and more expensive) and had some great views of the various places around the lake.
Back in Milan that night discovered the happy hour buffets that I'd read about - 6 Euro for a drink and all you can eat.
Buffet is nothing special, but ...

Milan was pretty much just another big European city. Not exciting enough to be interesting and not small and quaint enough to be charming.
Checked out the Duomo whichis the 3rd largest church in the world and a huge gothic building that was ...
Far flung: a distance between one's location and comfort zone.
Well lets just say that I am pretty darn far flung. But in the era of Facebook, Skype, e-mail, blogs, it feels in some ways that comfort zones are now portable, is it still possible to escape our realities. On one hand, yes it is. The last week in Milan have been really nice but challenging. The 30 degree weather (Celsius of course) and the concrete jungle that is Milano has taken its ...
... I still can't believe I paid them to do it. That's totally illegal1 They deserved no money whatsoever. But they were smart: starting off with just one person moving on to all of us and getting us separated. They knew what they were doing. Smart talking us. Ugh. We talked about it for a long time, and vowed that if that ever happened again, well, we wouldn't let it happen again. After that, every street-seller I saw was given the complete and ...
