    Cruising the Yangtze

A travel blog entry by alister.bland on Aug 29, 2014

Started a Yangtze river cruise from Chongqing to Yichang (heading east - downstream) in drizzling rain so didn't get a really good look at the night lights of Chongqing. But was quite pretty all the same. Boarded the boat about six pm but didn't set sail until 9. We had to have a "welcome" talk first - what we could and couldn't do, what was included in the price and what wasn't (more wasn't than was), an introduction to the senior crew members ( very ...

Just saying ..... the whole guide thing is magnificent (and yes Von, that also means YOU).....Jenny had made allowances for the distance and the traffic, took us to the right terminal, checked our luggage, talked her way to our boarding pass and set us up in the right direction for the security queue. You see, in China, only certain hotels are permitted to rent rooms to foreigners. I'm not sure why... but I think it's to better ...

... and poor Aaron is bored. It's a struggle to pass the time until we enter the first gorge (Qutang Gorge) around 11:00. At only 8 km in length, this is the shortest gorge. It's very beautiful even if we can't see the peaks. The rain and mist have certainly shortened our views. It only takes about twenty minutes and we are out of the gorge and it's time for lunch. The food is once again uninspiring but it fills us up. It has started to rain harder than ...

... 160;So, to see the beautiful Xiling Gorge, I had read about a remote area in the mountains called Jiuwan Stream. Today I wanted to go to a place called Jiuwan Stream.  This place not in any of the guidebooks, but I learned about it on a blog. Specifically, I had read about a Jiuwan Stream drifting. Drifting is the Chinese term for what we call river rafting.   Jiuwan Stream is near to Xiling Gorge, 20 kilometers away from the Three Gorges Dam. ...
