07-24 Got up at first light and toured the whole island. The French side is much quiter than the Dutch side. The island is actually quite beautiful in places, esp. the beaches. If you just went to Simpson Bay or some of the other tourist spots you would not get the whole picture of this interesting dual nation island. I wanted to mail a postcard on the French side and had a hard time ...
We were up in time to watch our arrival into St. Maarten. We were the first ship into port and watched four other massive ships pull in. The island is pretty by the water but very desert like away from the coast.
We learned that the Dutch side of the island, which is where we are docked, is spelled St. Maarten and the French side is spelled St. Martin. You can't tell when you go from one to the other except for the signs along the road...most of the ...

Finally we are back in the water again but it wasn't a simple process. We missed three Causeway Bridge openings due to complications with the sea lift so I had to then wait for 1.5 hours for the next opening. Without a Bimini this meant the Cockpit was like being in an oven for 90 minutes whilst I waited for the bridge to open. I've got a touch of sunburn as a result! However ...
