... powerful surging surf or tranquil lapping waves, a heritage lighthouse painted stark white against the colourful backdrop, kangaroos, jetties, quaint seaside towns, ramshackle rusted farm cottages, roadside stalls selling fresh homegrown and homemade produce, stunning sunsets, friendly locals and seafood, seafood, seafood for those with a rod and reel - it really does have it all.

... post (minus trees!) and we had a great panoramic view of the surrounding ocean. Another information board told us to look out for whales, but it was a little too late to see them now and we soon turned back and walked back to the mainland. As we approached the marina we noticed a deep dark cloud slowly rolling towards us in the distance. It seemed it would be another day where the storms chased us, but we still had a good while of sunshine left to explore ...

... to do some site seeing around the town, first stop was the Trial Bay Gaol or prison. The Trial Bay Gaol was originally built as a prison, which housed inmates to build a break wall around the bay for ships to have safe mooring. This 1500 m long breakwall plan was eventually scrapped after about 20 years as only 300m were built after continual storm, current and stone issues (this being an area of especially hard granite). ... I decide to stay - it's too dark to go on, and I only saw the sign because I walked down to the van. Rob is busy with his van so I leave him to continue. He kindly gives me a bacon and cheese roll - that'll do nicely for dinner! I get to sleep at 9.30, aiming to get up early, to avoid any Rangers with too little to do on a Sunday morning, and to make a good start on my next mission: get to Coffs Harbour before 1.30! Today's distance was 85 miles Total ascent was 975m Time riding was 5 hrs ...
