... of Europe May 1 - 9th, 2009 I am finding Europe difficult to write about. Don't get me wrong, there is a lot to see, do and experience. Once can throw oneself into a myriad of historical encounters especially where architecture is concerned. Europe is old, Canada is not. The most impressive old buildings that I have seen in Canada are the parliament buildings in Ottawa (I have never been east of Montreal Island). Europe does not have any easy-to ...
Fredrikstad, Ostfold, Norway jasieniukrtw... but the 17m high Slottsfjellstårnet tower built after the war within the castle ground provides a good view of Tønsberg and the Oslofjord. Then the torrential rain came and the day trip to Tønsberg was abandoned for the next train to Oslo. Interesting fact for all you pub quizzers. The sanitory towel was invented here as well as alot of equipment associated with whaling and on that note i will end this blog here.
Tønsberg, Norway sd0744... granite quarried here (Larvikite) and a statue of Thor Heyerdahl. Got to Stavern and set up camp in what appeared an all Norwegian caravan park bar and being the only English person there bar from 5 Dutch tourists. One of the main attraction of this area is the Kyststien , a coastal path that passes through most campsites around Stavern. Trying to save my money, Norway is very expensive i decided to make the 7.5 km ...
Stavern, Norway sd0744... to Asker and our visit with Jacob. We arrived in Asker, succumbed to an ice cream cone. Up pulled up Jacob and we went quickly to his home. When we arrived a full Mexican dinner was waiting for us. We really enjoyed our conversation with him and his friend Ellen. He lives at the edge of Oslo Fjord. Tomorrow our plan is to take the train to Gothenburg but we see that the 9 am train is no longer on the schedule ...
Vollen, Norway victorkubik... to see the family, even more so than when I was gone for my first study abroad. I think they can relate a lot better to this trip, so I'm really exited to talk with them about it and give them their Christmas presents. It also sounds like it has been a bit of an exciting fall what with my brother off at his first term of college and Dad loosing a bunch of weight and having hernia surgery (which went really well last I heard). It will be really good to be home.
Andebu, Norway mannalieHey, again, I'm at work, so I must keep this short. Time has flown by and it's my last day here. I wrote an entry offline about it last night that i'll post later. Tonight I pack up my stuff and head to Oslo with Jo-Petter to scope out the city and meet up with the other PLU students on Wednesday. I think I'll be in Hamar by Friday or Saturday. I might even have internet by Sunday! No promises. Anyway, I'm happy and healthy. More later!
Andebu, Norway mannalie... again at the house. Everything is going well. Jo-Petter and I are home alone since the rest of the family is off on a trip until Thursday. It's kind of fun to be alone in the house, but I'll probably be bored of it soon. It's good they won't be gone long. Ok, back to work.
Andebu, Norway mannalie... been shown pictures of this snake and told about it before, and how it is a "gift" snake. I knew that the King and Queen of Norway are "gift", and my mom and dad are "gift", so i was trying to figure out how a Norwegian snake could be married. I completely forgot that it also means poisonous! Anyway, I think what they said is that it's the only poisonous snake that lives so far north and is willing to deal with the snow in the ...
Andebu, Norway mannalie... brother, Jonatan, to the lake near their cousin's house for a swim. The water was about 20 degress celsius (~68 F) so it was a bit chilly, but fun to enjoy for 10 min at a time. I broght my camera to take pictures, but the silly batteries which I had replaced this morning were already out of juice. Thank goodness they are rechargeable!! Well, that's mostly it for now. Wish me luck with the work permit!
