      Whew... a cold front came in and the temperature dropped... it was a brisk 11c when I left the house this morning.

      I love this town, when ever I feel a bit down, and the last few days was a downer, that even Debbie Downer would have been down with, but I inherently knew that if I could make it to Saturday, and just walk about, looking for fuscas for my friends in Singapore, and blue doors for my friend in Portland, that I would feel better.

      ... and a very picturesque town! After lunch we went to visit an old gold mine (mining is huge is MG state). Descent into the mine was using a truck thing down a very steep hill, but the mine was quite big inside, so i didn't find it too claustrophobic!
      The tour was all in Portuguese but between the three of us we worked out what was going on.

      ... in the museum, which also had a ton of art from the city as well as interactive exhibits where you learned about all the members of the plot and then had to try and guess how they would carry it out. It reminded us of one of those learning computer games from the 1990s, like Carmen Sandiego, and was surprisingly fun.       There really is nothing nicer than a pancada on the Rua Direita... there is something very zen about the sound of the water coursing down the cobblestones and jetting out from the roofs...

      ... and took a detour to Congonhas to see the Prophets carved by Aleijadinho who did them using chisels attached to his arms which is pretty impressive. On the way there we went through a massive thunderstorm and discovered Cindy leaks quite a bit, the rain also turned all the roads in Congonhas into mini rivers so we were fighting against the flow of water, all quite dramatic.
