Bologna- Milano-Como. Cloudy and showers 18 deg

A travel blog entry by kenb on Nov 04, 2014

Frecciarossa back to Milan. Had enough of cities, though Bologna has character, and want to get out to country. Hotel breakfast ok- scrambled eggs and meatballs and big flat round bread loaves. Had trouble understanding Trenitalia ticketing machine and paid for 2 tix, but not expensive- 4€ and 6€ for second and first class tix to Como. Lots of 'helpers' at machines- Africans everywhere. Safer to buy tix in office where there is an employee helper. Good cheese and ...

... br> Parma is a city of just under 200,000 which is famous for its ham's and cheeses. It is also famous for architecture. The city is very pleasant and small enough to walk around, just like Brescia.

We had a walk around the city, a bite to eat and a few beers before returning to the hotel.

... how far that 10 cents coin will get him..........

So in between marvelling at the architecture, we get a coffee and wonder which train we need to get on, we have 40 minutes, so by our standards it's quite relaxing to have some spare time. I figure out that if I stand by the main board, it'll show Parma somewhere and we can sort it that way. After a while Rhid says he's off to information to find out the connections. I work out we need to get on the train to Recci and ...

Exploring Parma

Breakfast at the hotel and a visit to the battistero and the cathedral. Found a deli and bought up big - parma ham, parma cheese, balsamic, Lambrusco and olive oil. Lunch out at La Forchetta - just below our room window! Highlight was the Aubergine parmagiana with smoked cheese. Beautiful old town... Now enjoying the local produce at home with a bottle of ...
