... ones, with some fairly complicated train trips. But Joy will get to see the birthplace of her favourite boyfriend. Milan is only about 30 miles away, and we really could not pass by the chance to pay our respects to the great man.

... seen this spectacle of love, indulgence, companionship, status symbol show off, exercise reason, advisor with the shopping, mobile doggy bag (for those times when one doesn't like what one has ordered!), and of course pick up line for that girl (or guy) one has always fancied! Parma's dogs...... Nearly as important as Parma's violets!

... of the Mannerist and Baroque rooms being closed to the public today paled into insignificance compared to the pleasure of the half hour spent in front of this glorious little gem, almost being able to smell it!

Once the visit to the gallery was over then of course it was break for a strong coffee to try to get Joy back to earth before the next gallery..... The pinocoteca Stuard.....270 artworks in 22 rooms!!

... hotels (ours certainly is) some pleasant bars (we found one or two of those of course!) and at least two good trattoria style restaurants. Oddly enough, restaurants, of whatever price range, really have to be looked for - they don't pop up at every corner like many other towns.

Two other things you should know about Parma is the number of bikes, and the number of dogs. Bikes tool along the wide streets almost silently, and few ...

... made the Diocesan Museum, which sounds boring but is not, as it has a wealth of archaeological material, plus some treasures and statues moved there for safety. After this, being a bit tired after our early start, we opted for a short exploring walk and then an early dinner.

Parma is quite a large city, famous world wide for its hams and cheeses, and of course Parma Violet perfume and confectionery. It was strange at first, ...
