Macau Baby!!! Gamble your face off!

We are headed to Macau today. This will be an interesting trip – we are going with Irene's Mom, Brother, Brother’s Fiancee, and cousin Sandy. Macau is supposedly the Las Vegas of Asia. The flight is fine – but you land on a reclaimed runway with water on all sides. You miss and you go swimming. At least the water should be relatively warm… We land safely and wait for our shuttle bus to the Grand Waldo Hotel. I get the typical stamp in the passpost – none of my tr...

Sic Bo or Bust

Today we are flying back to Taiwan, but not before we go to the Venetian Macau! Everyone knows how big the Venetian is in Las Vegas. This one is huge. It is the single largest hotel building in Asia and fourth largest building in the world by square footage. So, we won't have a problem spending the entire day here. After some obligatory pictures at the entrance, we proceed to the girl’s favorite, shopping. In order to get to the shops, you walk through the huge gambling area. It is abso...

First slight drama

We arrived in Macau from Hong Kong not knowing what to expect from this old Portuguese Colony and we had our first hiccup here! At first we did some sightseeing in the historical part of town seeing St Paul's and a number of other old churches that have been repainted and now resemble some art deco buildings. We also saw the fort and the Macau museum which was a very interesting insight into how the Portuguese got here in the first place. As far as I can tell they landed to fix a ship and nev...

Two Days One Night in Macau

... other places in Asia. Five minutes walk from the souvenir street, I come to the St. Dominic's Church. The church is beautiful in the outside and the inside. After taking some photos of the site I follow the route to the Leal Senado Square. Before Leal Senado Square, there is a narrow street which head to the Cathedral (a narrow street next to Mcdonalds ...

Farewell Package

... William said shark fin soup in some places can cost upwards of 100 US dollars a bowl. Well they served us two. Ricky's a vegetarian and he had some weird seaweed soup thing, and I had to take a picture of it because it was so festive. I mean this stuff was really green. Then we had Szechwan shrimp, and I don't know how to describe them except that they were amazing, and some assorted meat courses like you always have in Chinese meals. Then they brought these weird dough ball things, that ...

In Praise of Hong Kong Park

... the English visitor feeling fairly ignorant, as great tea drinkers, it is surprising how in\gnorant the majority of us are in regards to the subtle differences of tea. For instance, the best tea is brewed, not in china, but in purple clay pots, as it brings out the colour and the aroma better. China can be better decorated, and is thus more aesthetically pleasing to use during the service of tea, but it is not ...

... and start shouting "Hello!" to everyone. They did this all day and every day. Of the countless rafts I saw, only two of them made a sale. When I took a picture of one of the rafts from the top deck of our ship, the guy just laughed at me and shook his head, as if to say, "This is my life, you idiot. You barely know anything about anything." I sheepishly put my camera away after that. Our lunch was served on board the ship. It was pretty general stuff; eggs, chicken...nothing ...
