... of the day relaxing around town, drinking and eating and watching cricket! Pah who needs the great outdoors anyway!

I think I'm missing out on a lot that Tasmania has to offer, but being based around Hobart makes it difficult without driving for miles (and I've run out of energy for that). But the scenery is fantastic and the whole atmosphere, the people and everything, just seems more laid back and ...

Back to Hobart

... some residual sugar. Sweeter nose – lemon tart or possibly frangipan on the nose. Good acidity with sweeter fruit but quite a dry finish.

2009 Sauvignon Blanc – just bottled this week. Gooseberry with a hint of passion fruit at the end. Rich, dry, still very young.

2008 Primavera C******nay – hint of oak on the nose and wet stone minerality. Not integrated, good fruit (tropical) with a long finish ...

Day 6 - Way to Hobart

... The drinks (non-alcoholic) were $1.50 and Pringles were $2! We have to thank Tripadvisor.com for this find. :) Towards the evening we went for a walk in Hobart CBD. Apart from a nice Marina, Hobart CBD is like any CBD. While there we went to the Visitor Centre and booked the Bruny Island cruise for tomorrow. Should be good... We finally came back to our hotel room and were ready to crash in bed. Need to get rest for tomorrow. :)

... trail that everyone kept saying was "Oh just right over there."  But once we did it was well worth the effort.  The views were beautiful and the Gardens were even more beautiful.  On the way back we decided to take a detour down Salamanca were we saw a very cute ally way with tons of cute shops and cafes.  Grabbing a small bite to eat there, we are now back at our boat waiting for the next three days at sea and supposedly even more waves crossing the Tasman Sea.  I am so excited.

... nasty crevices and drop offs. Quite technical and dangerous to amateur trekkers, many people turned back half way up the chiselled peak. By the time we reached the very top we were on our own, very tired and very sweaty. We sat in the remarkably still air looking out across the panorama and swatted more flies as we pulled out our sandwiches. It was a wonderful view but left me a bit nervous, it was a long way down. Negotiating our descent was far more ...

The home of yachts and spinnakers

... absolutely gorgeous. There's so much water and so many peninsulas to explore. It doesn't seem to matter where you go, the view is always amazing. It quickly became apparent that a traveller can base themselves in Hobart and pretty much cover all of the south- east on day trips. Nothing is too far away from Hobart. Two lovely bridges link the suburbs across the Derwent, so it doesn't matter where you stay. So many of the 19th Century Georgian buildings in the ...

Under Down Under

... lights, towards the beach, where the penguins were emerging after a hard day's swim. They watched as they waddled up the sand in orderly lines, and into the grassland towards their burrows, stopping every so often for a preen and a chat. As they peeked into one burrow, they saw one bird of a pair was moulting, with great fluffy feathers draped around its body like a fabulous fur coat. Its non-moulting mate was ...

I live out of a van

... I am having a ball living this crazy lifestyle. The days are taken up by finding a place to sleep and eating. We tend to spend quite a bit of time in parking lots when we gather to get groceries, booze, internet or a bank machine. We must all look so funny coming out of the van. Oh, I don't know if I remembered to mention that the van is a two seater and there are three of us, so I lie on my bed while we move. **** time is out! Enjoy the photos!

Tasmania Mania!!!

... people. We flew from Canberra to Melbourne and then to Hobart, the capital of Tasmania. The next few days were spent hanging out and wlking around the city. We took a tour of the Cadberry Chocolate factory and bought tons of cheap chocolate. You can buy a bar of chocolate that weighs 10 kilograms, thats equivalent to 22 pounds of chocolate in one huge candy bar. One other interesting candy story: you ...
