Picking up our rental car in Zakynthos town was considerably less dramatic than our Santorini experience - thank goodness!

We were soon out of the main town and heading north to the port of St Nicholas (winter population c.30!) Zakynthos is famous or its coastal scenery, but our cruise did not offer a tour like the one we planned for ourselves - something which astonished us.

... umbrellas can be charted very cheap, like you can get 2 sunbeds with a drink in a bar. So when you get in the water, you have to walk for like 100 meters at least. Its very shallow, it has a sandy bottom, no rocks, and it has very clear water. So you just like get tired before you do any swimming, but it was awesome anyway. I was thankful for a quiet day as the last 24 hours I have been fighting off a throat infection, early nights and pain relief, gargling with salt every 6 hours.
