Afslapning i Egypten
Jun 29, 2008

Yes folks, its a bumper Christmas edition.... Sarah, with her blonde hair and blue eyes, has been very popular in the Middle East, so it was with some surprise that we note that she is the first to be hit on this trip. By a stone thrown by a bunch of school kids, no less, soon after we arrived in this fair country. Welcome to Egypt! That aside, ...

Great holiday

from A TripAdvisor User on 2005-09-07
Hotel was lovely, staff were friendly, rooms basic but clean. Nice beach with water slide's and other activities. Two pools which were lovely. Food good and plentiful.

Manly a german resort, kids club do have interpreters.

Tours were very expensive with the hotel but can get deals just outside and they are the same trips - all go in the same coach. Did Luxor and Cairo one day trips - fantastic.

Not 5 star!!!

from carnage on 2005-08-25
Stayed at the hotel for a week after a nile cruise which was superb. (Perhaps we were spoiled) The hotel is rated 5 star but the rooms were fairly basic, the bathroom was tatty (Even after a room change) there was no light over the bath so had to shower in semi darkness. The larger restaurant reminded us of eating at a large holiday camp. The pool needed repainting. The beach located across the road at the sister hotel was very good and this hotel seemed a better standard although rated a star less. Not much to do in the way of nightlife. Overall fairly disappointed.

Excellent Value For Money

from A TripAdvisor User on 2005-07-05
This was our second stay at the excellent Grand Resort Hotel. The pool is just amazing although some of the sunbed attendants were sullen and not very helpfull the rest of the staff remained polite and very pleasant.Although there are not to many Brits about this in no way deters from the holiday as the Egyptian people seem pleased to meet anyone from over here and are more than willing to chat and give constructive advice. It is more cheap to eat just outside of the hotel and also the drinks are slightly cheaper the surroundings are so special its a shame to leave.

This year there was in house entertainment such as Egyptian dancers etc but there is much more later in the evening surrounding the hotel. The visit to Luxor is amazing though very tiring the hotel provide you with an early breakfast packed lunch and the use of pillows for the journey.Less tiring and excellent value for money is the half day snorkelling trip.Lunch provided equipment for around £20.The hotel has a sedate atmosphere the hygiene is very good we will return after visiting more of this great country.

Lucky you if you are staying here!!!!!!!!

Here here!!!

I agree with everything the last person has said about this hotel. I stayed at the Grand Resort for one week in May. along with my sister, and oh what a Grand time we had at the Grand. A nice relaxing time at the pool and bar. Enjoyed some boat trips, and a day trip to Luxor. Saving my pennies to go back ASAP. Next time I will do the trip to Cario, and hopefully go for two weeks, as a week is not long enough. If you have booked this hotel in the future, just want to say I am soooooooo jealous, and I'm sure you will have a super time like we did. xxxx

Wonderful, stayed here 3 times

from A TripAdvisor User on 2005-06-06
I love this hotel. i´ve been twice with my husband, and for two weeks by myself in feb. The rooms are large, with a balcony, marble bathroom, sofa,tv,minibar, hairdryer, a massive bed with a gold coloured canopy over it. Really romantic! The hotel is massive, with lots to do,over the street is the grand hotel with you can walk thru to the beach. Waiter service also on the beach! The red sea is clean and warm. I did about 9 boat tours, the reefs are wonderful!! so many fish! The sellers outside the hotel at the start can be annoying, but if you say "la schukran" which is "no thanks" they leave you alone. Over the road on the right is "the Dutch Bar" beer is cheep and there is live music each night Santana style. the jeep safari is maga fun, but take a torch, cos it gets really dark on the way back. The food is also really good, there is more than one restaurant. The last time here i was alone and i really enjoyed it. the manager of the restaurant sat me next to other women who where by themselves. There were quite a lot!

Great holiday!

We stayed for 1 week in grand resort and wuold thouroughly recommend it. It was a huge hotel with plenty to do, rooms were also really big and very comfortable. Hotel was very clean and staff were always willing to help. Food was a buffet style which had a varied choice including a stir fry and omlette station. Surroundings of hotel were beautiful and very well maintained. Would also recommend doing some of the trips including Luxor and boat trips. Well worth the money and would definately go back!

Loved the Grand Resort - Amazing

from Gary1974Dunfermline on 2005-05-03
Spent a week at the Grand Resort last week and found it to be an exceptional hotel. Very clean and well kept pools rooms etc. I was lucky to get a 'presidential' suite with own balcony etc but the other 'basic' rooms still looked lovely with King beds and nice ensuite. Not a lot to do outside hotel - few bars - entertainment is mostly connected to the hotel as as the bars near the Grand Mall. Enough shops here to get your nik-naks although if you are wanting booze to takeout get it from one of th pubs as they don't sell it in the shops.

You can use beach and Grand Hotel but it's pretty small and personally I preferred the pool, where you get a drinks service coming around. Word of warning - if the staff ask you to try the 'drink of the day' - it's not free and you'll find them coming around 5 mins later with the receipt for you to sign.

Service can be a bit patchy in variius parts of the hotel but overall - above average. Food in buffet restaurants is okay - but not exceptional.

Well Recommended hotel.

Wouldn't go back again!

from oolong on 2005-03-15
The Grand Resort is a very attractive looking hotel but the evening meal in the buffets was terrible, most of our party on half board opted to eat outside the hotel! Some of the staff were very off-hand - it seems that morale is as low as their wages - although some were excellent. There is a lot of hassle outside the hotel at the shops from the shopkeepers, some of whom became very aggressive and rude. Having spent our first week on a Nile cruise where the service and food were superb, the Grand Resort was a complete disappointment.

Truely amazing

from 2309 on 2005-01-17
This hotel is excellent. the rooms are great, clean and spacious. The staff are excellent -frinedly and helpful. The food is just delicious and the choices are plentifull -beyond any imagination. There are several restaurants to choose form, and the buffets are just so great and rememberable. We saw other hotels when we were there and this was definately the best one. When we were there the weather was not great at all but the hotel made our holiday. If I was ever to go Hurgada again I would certainly stay there -they made us feel like sultans!

Trust me -STAY HERE you won't regret it.

Are you vaccinated

from A TripAdvisor User on 2004-09-01
The Grand Resort looks good, and gives you generally what you expect. That is apart from Hepatitis A. If you go there, ensure you are fully vaccinated because they just cant quite grasp the concept of hygiene. It completely spoiled our holiday and similar problems were reported from friends at grand siva. We are currently waiting to turn yellow from jaundice - all complements of the grand resort
