Singapore Shopping and Sweating

Greetings from Singapore So the big Airbus A380 touched down in Singapore yesterday with one Gloucester bird on board and some hefty luggage - that's me! Singapore Airport; very very clean and sparkly. Floors so polished you could eat your dinner off them - and the toilets - amazing; when you get up and start to walk away from the loo, it automatically flushes!! How amazing is that? They have some cool inventions over here that haven't made their way to Gloucester yet, that's for sure - inclu...

Singapore is the cleanest city ever!!

Singapore: After a fabulous flight with BA to sunny and rainy Singapore, we loved the funny cheap food courts and amazing luxury clean shopping streets and plazas! It took us a while to get over the jetlag and were waking up at funny times and feeling like zombies! The whole city was lit up ready for Chinese New Year! Sim Lim Square, Orchard Road, Little India, China Town, and Mount Emily Park are highly recommended! Oh and the tube is so much nicer than London's! We did so much sight seeing ...

Singapore - touched done at 5am Friday 15th Aug local time, Changi airport. Walked past the armed guards with semi-automatic machine guns to immigration, then collected our luggage and looked around for customs. We asked a security guy and apparently we had already walked straight through customs without anyone asking us for our passports, a bag check or anything? Got our transfer to Park Royal on Kitchener Rd. Hotel was really clean and new. Checked into hotel and caught up on some sleep til...

Finally touched down in Singapore. We checked in at the Singapore Stopover desk in the airport for our goodies and we were on the way to the hotel. My first impressions of Singapore were positive. It was a very clean modern city which I was eager to explore. The hotel was very nice and had a great A/C going when we walked in. Felt great..it was a little humid outside and looked like possible rain showers soon. We settled into our room and headed for a walk of the area surrounding our hotel. W...

Well it's 4:15 am...might as well walk the city right? Right! I headed to the waterfront to get some night pics and reflection shots. 4:30am...everything is not ok...the humidity is killing my camera....it's totally fogged up and everytime I clean it it comes right back...this cannot be happening...well it is...sucks for me...by 5am I'm back at the hotel talking to myself...get a grip Rod...get a grip....I can't though...The water could not have been more still and the buildings could not of ...

Woke back up early again and will try to get some more photos before the sun comes up around the waterfront. This time I brought both cameras along with my video. The humidity wasn't going to get the best of me this time. Being a holiday the buildings were pretty much black with hardly any lights on, so I didn't even bother with taking any pics of them..it would come out too dark. I was having the same problems again with the lenses, so I wiped all of them off with anti-fog wipes and it seeme...

Singapore Slings in Singas

Upon landing upon Singapore the first thing you notice is how modern and efficient everything is. The airport is full of shops with the most up to date electronics, there is free internet and laptops dotted all around the airport and you can even have a dip in the pool if that takes your fancy. Clearing customs in about 2 minutes we hailed a cab to take us to our hotel in the CBD the Grand Plaza. Driving down the main highway which is impressive in itself - think potted plant and manicured tr...

Singapore - Day One

Having arrived at Singapore at about 6pm on Wednesday (which tells you something about how long the flight was - we took off at 9pm on Tuesday...), we took a short taxi ride to our hotel, the Grand Plaza on Coleman Street. The foyer is very pretty, with lots of flowers just everywhere and marble (veneer) all around. After successfully explaining that David was my father and therefore we would prefer not to have one bed - an explanation I foresee having to make several times during this trip -...

Nice perks

from lnixon
Being in Singapore on business, I got a negotiated conference rate at this hotel and decided to splurge on one of the "Orchid Class" rooms. That turned out to be an excellent idea.

I arrived at 6 am, totally wrecked after a long flight from Europe, and was politely and efficiently whisked to my room together with my luggage.

The room was a fairly standard three- or four-star room - nothing to complain about, but nothing special (the DVD player was nice, though). However, the amenities were very nice; you get access to the business lounge on 10th floor,

where your breakfast is served in the morning. In the evening there is free tea (in the British sense, i.e. lots of sandwiches and canapes) and a small, free bar. You get a free (wired) Internet connection in your room, and two complimentary pieces of laundry per day. That last thing is very nice, given the Singapore climate...

The hotel is just across the street from Funan IT Mall, where you can satisfy all your hardware needs, and one block from Fort Canning Park, which is a nice place for a stroll, and also the location for The Battle Box.

All in all, I had a very enjoyable week here.

Neat hotel

from MsSG
We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights, taking advantage of the SIA stopover priveledge.

We loved the hotel room, because the bathroom was spacious and clean, has a seperate bath tub and shower.

The staffs were very helpful in confirming our SQ flights back to melbourne.

The swimming pool was very small though and there was a little jacuzzi by its side.

The location is good because it is infront of funan IT mall, where there are supermarkets and restaurants.

We will definately come back here, because it is reasonably priced and has good service.

Good value hotel - but beware

from zeehan
Very disappointing check-in. We were booked in for 6 nights at the Grand Plaza Park Royal which entitled us to a late checkout on our last night according to our Travel Agent, who rang the hotel to confirm this. The Receptionist tried to spin a story that late checkout would not be available due to heavy bookings, however I stood my ground and she relented. I should not have had to go through this! Also she did not give us our breakfast vouchers which were included in our package. We had to go to Reception the next morning to ask for our vouchers. I have heard before that this hotel also does not give an upgrade even when there is an entitlement. Why do guests have to go through these battles on checkin?

However, the location is excellent, close to MRT although taxis at the front door are inexpensive. The pool is nice and the jacuzzi fantastic. We also enjoyed the breakfast.

Although I would like to stay there again, I don't think I can be bothered with the arguments at checkin. I would rather spend my money elsewhere.

Good hotel in central position

from edwinaw
I wonder if the last reviewer may be getting mixed up with the plaza park royal on beach rd? Old hotel in need of revamping does not seem to match the Grand Plaza in Coleman Street.

The hotel is predominantly a business hotel but still find for tourist. I like the position with the train not too far away, being able to walk to Clark Quay it was very convenient.

My only problem, and I think after talking to some other people it might not be confined to our hotel, was the bed made of concrete. The housekeeping put 3 underlays on top of it but I still had bruised hips. Interested to know if other Singapore hotel have hard beds as well. I want to go back but not with the beds.

Plaza Parkroyal - not the best

from anni999
Old Hotel in need of a facelift. The room was not ready when we arrived and we had to book into one room and then change rooms the next day. The breakfast buffet was good, but the dinner buffet was just awful! The little bar by the pool was OK - but did close very early on a Saturday night - we realised it was closed after the bar man disappeared - no warning at all.

Very nice hotel

from poohpaws
My family stayed here 4 nights as my brother's wedding reception was in one of the restaurants.

All 4 rooms were very nicely furnished, modern and sleek.

Excellent service.

The Szechaun restaurant's food was good, except for the suckling pig - the skin was stiff and leathery, whereas its supposed to go "crunch" and snap as you bite into it.

Very good location too - a minute or so from the MRT.

Loved the Grand Plaza ParkRoyal

from A TripAdvisor Member
My husband and I and our daughter who is 14 had a great time at the Grand Plaza Park Royal. We stayed in the club rooms and had the facilities on the club floor. The breakfast and snacks in the evening were of good quality and the wine was good too! The staff were excellent and helpful. We used the swimming pool and the spa facilties and they were clean. Having our clothes 6 pieces per day washed was a bonus for us travellers. If you want you can use the other breakfast room for a change but we prefer the club room where you get instant assistance. It is near City Hall station which was handy for travelling, a minute walk.

An excellent place for business and pleasure.

We will definitely go back there, in infact we are trying to book again now but they seem fully booked!

Great location, great price

from Sandgroper
Spent 6 nights here over the new year. Excellent location. Walking distance to City Hall MRT and Raffles City shops. Room was good size. Bathroom could have been a little bigger, but for S$130+++/night, who's complaining?

Good Hotel with Good Price

from Saranghae
I really like this hotel. Clean, modern, and friendly staffs. The room and the bathroom are spacious. The location is also very strategic, very near to the City Hall MRT station. And I really surprise that we have to use our room's keycard for using the elevator to going up to our room for safety reason. I strongly recommend this hotel.
