    ... action movie which was put at full volume by the bus conductor; the funny thing is no-one was watching and as the only foreigner I didn't have the balls to stand up and say "Do you mind awfully turning that down old chap?"

    After a total of zero hours sleep and rather hot in the bus, we stopped in the middle of Colombo, just after 4am, at Pettah Market. This is a real hub of Colombo and is the place to go and buy, barter, etc.

    ... like to bargain here. I ate some samosas for lunch then came back to rest from the endless tut tut drivers asking if you want a taxi. I could tell I was tired as my patience was warring.

    In the evening, I searched unsuccessfully for an internet café only to discover a wonderful eatery that prepared the most delicious fried rice with beef curry. The customers were so friendly too and humble. I like this ...

We find a very wide choice of restaurants close by so at least that's positive. We choose for Boulevard, where in the end they don't seem to have local food on the menu...     ... apocalyptic roadworks on the Galle Road defeated me. I got to Deliwhala and turned back. Let's be honest, there are only so many times a day you can be forced off the non-existent pavement by roadworks and into the path of a stridently horn-blaring bus before the joke starts to wear thin and so I decided to retreat to the relative safety of Wellewatta. Well, at least I knew where I was there!
