We didn't spend all our time in town though. We took the local bus (and what a deal - a four hour ride in a rattle-trap bus with poor brakes and a crazed driver bent on breaking yesterday's speed record using primarily a heavy foot and a horn, for $1.50) south down the coast to Galle, ...

It can be hard to work out what they are actually taking in sometimes as most don't have any English. Other activities we did included, clapping, pairs, skittles and building blocks. ... a pretty local lagoon.
From Hikkaduwa we traveled further south and stayed in Unawatuna which is close to Galle. This was a really nice but still a bit touristy but we bought some nice bags and purses and we had a trip looking round Galle fort. We also went to see whales! It was pretty cool we saw about four blue whales and they all lifted their tails to dive down deep which was pretty cool, would have been nice to be closer to them or ...
