... marinated chicken with olives, pickles, peppers, tomatoes, hot sauce and MASHED POTATOES. It was brilliant!

The women here don’t seem to be as strict with the Islamic clothing. There are many women who do not cover their hair and I’ve a descent amount in jeans and short sleeve shirts. On the other hand, the guys just stare at you. I can’t quite figure it out. I’ve been so careful to be covered when in the city but they still just stare ...
Spain and Morocco, Spain lenahoff... tried to jointly recapture the Rock with the Great Siege (1779-83) during the American Revolution. The siege was to become one of the greatest sieges in history. The British dug tunnels in the side of the mountain to protect themselves during the siege. These Great Siege Tunnels were our next destination on the tour. It is estimated that in one day of heavy fighting there was over 4,000 rounds fire in total by both sides. The British Army tunneled into solid rock to escape the ...
Gibraltar, United Kingdom danharriet... boxes, the convent/Governor's residence and many, many, many shops. We looked in a few but didn't really feel like buying anything accept postcard. When we finally made it the end in Casemates Square, we decided we couldn't make it any further and stopped to have fish n' chips (lunch) at an outdoor cafe with views of the Rock and Moorish castle. Afterward we strolled around even seeing a glass blower's shop which was very pretty but expensive and ...
Gibraltar, Gibraltar jklenk... morning. The flight itself was uneventful,I chatted to a woman with her young daughter about the bonuses of house swapping on the Internet, my recent couch surfing discovery and my plans to dance round the world...she told me about her recent career change to become an architectural interior designer. It sounded interesting and at the same time tough. The journey passed quickly. The landing at Gibraltar airport never fails to impress me ..the ...
Estepona, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands redbikiniThe ferry over to Ceuta only took 30 mins. Ceuta is a Spanish enclave, so although we are in Africa we are still in Spain. You can see the mix of Iberian/African cultures and there are far more hustlers on the streets than on the other side of the Mediterranean. We had 2 very important things to do before going into Morocco; to get car insurance (which we plan to do tomorrow) and to stock up on ...
Ceuta, Spain tayka... Scotsman), so we headed back up and across the entire rock. The steps were cool and reminded me a lot of the cliffs in Malta. After winding all the way back down to the main gate, we headed down to Europa Point, the tip of Gibraltar. This was the final point into the unknown for the sailors of the ancient world. We headed back to the hotel, cleaned up, had some Indian food down in town, and had a solid nights sleep. The total vertical distance today exceeded 1km.
Gibraltar, Gibraltar ditchthecubeThe train station at Tangier was really nice and probably he best one in morocco at the moment. We walked over to the taxi rank and a grand taxi driver beckoned us over as he already had three american lads in his car who he was taking to the port. We jumped in with these and got dropped off outside the CTM station which was just around the corner from the hotel. As we walked up the road two guys came over saying pension victoria, which is where we wanted to go. They ...
Tangier, Morocco shelwar83... fyi a bottle of wine two jacks and cokes and god knows how many shots of Jagger don't go together (sorry mom). One of the girls on the trip kept telling me that I needed to put in money for their tab for some reason, even though I had closed out mine earlier, and was just getting drinks from the bar, but I put an end to that. Tarifa was a lot of fun, I don't know if I'd want to go back cause of how windy it was, and it's the windsurfing capital of the world.
Tarifa, Spain archkama... climbers use it as a base to climb Jebel Toubkal. The area really reminded us of the Andies in Peru, although the lifestyles of the Berber people seems much more comfortable than the indigenous of Peru. There are many streams which are supplied by either glacial run off or springs. Where ever there is a water source a terraced village grows from the mountain sides. The connected homes are built with either hand made clay or cement bricks, the roofs ...
Tangier, Morocco donstump1... us hang with the old lads in the hut, just like Irish old lads in a west of Ireland bar only smoking kif & drinking mint tea instead of tobacco & guinness, and shouting at Saddam on the telly. A few days later we met our own friends from Dublin in a pre arranged cafe from the guide book (no mobiles in them days) where great creme caramel was served. And after a few more days we all headed down the coast to Asilah. Asilah is a nice little beach town where you could hear the calls ...
